The 30-year-old actor's career is about to explode, thanks to his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the new Baz Luhrmann's biopic

Mere days after welcoming Jisoo of Blackpink into its Panthère community, Cartier announced that it has appointed Austin Butler as its brand ambassador for North America. Born in California, Butler is currently getting praise for his performance as Elvis Presley in Elvis, which is directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge).

There's no doubt that the young actor will be receiving plenty of attention in the coming months, perhaps even an Oscar nomination, if the audience's reaction at Elvis' premiere at the 75th Cannes Film Festival is any indication.

Butler walked the red carpet in Cannes wearing custom Celine tuxedo embellished with Cartier accessories, namely a Tank watch, Love ring in white gold and Juste un Clou bracelet.

After being talent scouted at the Orange County Fair at 13, Butler starred in two seasons of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and played Jamie Lyn Spear's boyfriend on Zoey 101. He also landed guest-starring gigs on Hannah Montana and iCarly before he moved on to appear in a couple of notable series for other networks, Switched at Birth at ABC Family and The Carrie Diaries at The CW.

Playing Elvis landed him in the hospital

Butler gave it his all to portray one of the world's biggest rock stars ever, so much so that after he finished filming, he woke up the next day with excruciating pain. In a GQ interview recently, he revealed that he was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a virus that simulates appendicitis. “My body just started shutting down the day after I finished Elvis," he said.

He sang 'Unchained Melody' for his 'Elvis' audition

Butler submitted a video of him singing Presley's Unchained Melody, wearing only a bathrobe. The rest is history.

He dated Vanessa Hudgens for nine years

They were the It Hollywood couple for almost a decade and their cultural impact is undeniable. In 2011, they met through Hudgen’s former colleague and friend Ashley Tisdale, with whom Butler starred in High School Musical spin-off movie, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. They were "relationship goals" in the internet for the longest time, with PDA photos of them hitting music festivals, walking the red carpet or just a regular street going viral. Every year, they wore matching Halloween costumes that always ended up on Pinterest.

Alas, they called it quits in 2020, citing busy work schedules. Although they have remained on amicable terms, Butler recently went public with new love Kaia Gerber at Met Gala 2022

His next project is 'Dune: Part Two'

Butler will star alongside Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya in the sequel to Denis Villeneuve's box-office hit adaptation of the epic science fiction novel. He will play the cruel and cunning Feyd-Rautha, the heir of the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. The movie is set for release in October 2023.
