Cover Jewelmer’s Pamana Brooch, featuring the Sarimanok

The iconic jewellery brand proudly showcases one of its latest heritage pieces

International luxury brand Jewelmer reminds us of its distinction in the Filipino jewellery design scene with its newest iteration of the Pamana Brooch, the latest in a long line of tributes to a proud heritage.

This piece features a golden South Sea pearl nestled within the multi-coloured embrace of the Sarimanok, a bird-like creature of Philippine folklore supposed to symbolise luck and prosperity.

The name Pamana is derived from the Tagalog word for ‘‘heirloom’’. With this new collection, the renowned jewellery brand has taken its part in heritage preservation a notch higher—crafting these timeless, evergreen treasures.

The Pamana Brooch features a variety of pink and blue sapphires and diamonds set along the wings of the Sarimanok.

The Sarimanok is a ubiquitous symbol in the culture of the Maranao people in Mindanao and is commonly featured in dances, rituals and ancient epics.

The central motif of this piece is a baroque pearl. Its irregular, “imperfect” shape affords a kind of individuality unlike a typical spherical South Sea pearl but is nonetheless a treasure in and of itself.

For decades, Jewelmer has established itself at the very forefront of the pearl industry. The company was the first to utilise hatchery-born oysters that produce golden South Sea pearls. This method vastly improves the cultured pearls’ quality of life and production and prevents the depletion of wild oyster beds.
