Founder and CEO of fine jewellery brand Nouvel Heritage, Camille Parruitte became inspired to pursue a career in design after realising that jewellery could be so much more than an accessory. The New York-based jeweller talks to Tatler about the meanings behind her creations, as well as her deep-rooted connection to Paris.
Tell us about your favourite jewellery piece.
I have a little Van Cleef & Arpels heart that my grandfather gifted me when I was 18 years old. I’ve never not worn it, and it’s very emotionally valuable to me. My favourite Nouvel Heritage piece is the Mood bangle, which is perfect for stacking.
What inspires you?
Architecture, fashion and travel. I spend a lot of time observing things and people, and this gives me time to daydream and get inspired.
Describe the woman who wears your jewellery.
She’s independent, confident and cares about the story behind her jewellery.
What’s your first memory of jewellery?
Sitting in my grandmother’s room, rifling through her jewellery box while she tells me how she acquired each piece.
Tell us about the first jewellery piece you designed.
It was a very simple flower, which I crafted in silver for my mom. It wasn't the best but practice makes perfect.
