It all began not in a design studio, but deep in the earth. In 2022, Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s artistic director and co-president, stood face to face with an awe inspiring 6,225-carat rough emerald—a gem so immense and majestic that it was named Insofu, meaning “elephant” in Zambia’s Bemba language. Shaped like a trunk and glowing with a life of its own, this emerald didn’t just catch the eye. It sparked a vision.

What makes the Insofu Collection extraordinary isn’t just the sheer size or quality of the gem, but the journey Chopard took to bring it to life. In a rare move for the world of Haute Joaillerie, the Maison chose to start from the raw stone, taking on the unknowns of cutting and shaping emerald, a notoriously fragile gem, rather than working with already polished stones.
It was a bold, meticulous process led by master gem-cutters from India to its Geneva workshops, taking nearly a year to unveil the emerald’s true soul. The result? 850 carats of emeralds so vivid and emotive, they became the stars of a one-of-a-kind collection.

Debuted first during Oscars week last year, and now in full bloom, the Insofu Collection features 15 dazzling pieces: five pairs of earrings, four necklaces, three rings, a bracelet and a jewellery watch. Each piece tells a different story, but they’re all bound together by the same values, which are exquisite artistry, ethical sourcing and a deep respect for the natural world.
At the heart of the collection is a standout piece—an elephant-shaped pendant adorned with emeralds and diamonds, its trunk lifted skyward, symbolising good fortune and prosperity. For Scheufele, this was personal. “The final reveal of the Insofu Collection is a moment I have long awaited, one that could only be realised by aligning it with a meaningful cause to protect wildlife and nature, passions that have been close to my heart for many years,” she says.
As with all Chopard creations since 2018, the Insofu Collection uses 100 per cent ethical gold. It brings every detail from sparkle to structure into alignment with the brand’s evolving journey toward sustainable luxury. And in a world that often forgets its origins, Chopard chooses to honour them—in every cut, every carat, and every cause.
