From concept to creation: Victoria Beckham gets into detail on her collaboration with Mango

VBxMango is surely going to be the most sought-after collaboration this spring. How would you describe it in three words?

Sensual, Considered, and Feminine
 
Both brands are seamlessly dialoguing on this collection, each one adding its own essence to the result. How did you and your team approach the collaboration between both brands? What part of the process did you enjoy the most?

I really wanted to speak to a wider audience in a way that feels relevant to my brand and retains my aesthetic and DNA, and I am very proud of what we have created together. It feels very modern to bring the two brands together and build on our expertise, and I was very impressed by the Mango teams’ level of execution, attention to detail, and savoir-faire.

It was an exciting challenge to embrace another creative process without compromising on creativity and desirability. I also feel that we have a shared ethos, aesthetic and values around femininity, quality, and a real love of product.
 
When creating this collection, what kind of references did you have in mind?

I wanted to create a conscious modern wardrobe which is perfect for the summer months. There is a cheekiness, but it is also very put together with a sensuality as well. I was inspired by the iconic French film La Piscine, but more specifically by Jane Birkin’s character and her ease. She is all about natural beauty, is highly feminine, and has a real sense of freedom.

How do you envision the VBxMango woman? What are her traits and personality?

The woman is multi-faceted. It’s not about being any one type of woman, but for me, it’s really about wanting whoever wears my collections to feel empowered and like the best version of themselves.

Which pieces would you consider are the most representative of this collection? And which ones are your personal favourites?

I really love the easy slip dresses and the tailoring in particular. I have always played with both the feminine and masculine and want to offer an effortless women’s wardrobe that is versatile and wearable yet rooted in modernity with a sophisticated ease. Something might appear simple but so much thought and execution has gone into how that piece fits or sits on the body, the way it creates a strong silhouette—it’s always about silhouette for me.
 
Colour often plays a significant role in your collections. Can you discuss the palette chosen for the VBxMango collaboration and the themes you aimed to evoke through these specific hues?

The fabrics are very natural and there’s a real lightness and subtleness. It’s a more muted palette, very focused and relaxed with more island tones for an easy summer elegance.
 
Accessories always help to build the story. Can you share specific details about them and how they contribute to the overall narrative of the looks?

I love how accessories complete the character. They are not only beautiful pieces, but they also need to really function. As women, we need these items, whether it’s a bag or a shoe, to get us through from day to night and it’s the finishing touch to any look.

And looking back into the past, do you remember any piece or look from Mango in those days?

I was, of course, inspired by luxury fashion but couldn’t afford them, so I always turned to the high street brands growing up—including Mango. However, it was some time ago now, so can’t recall any one particular style.

When was the moment you decided to start your fashion career?

It was about creating what I desired and that first collection, in 2008, was a very considered collection of dresses that really focused on silhouette. My style has evolved throughout these years, and I have learned so much along the way. At the core, it has always been about silhouette for me. I’m so passionate about what I do, and I enjoy the process every step of the way—I live and breathe my brand. I work with a genuinely amazing group of people across fashion and beauty, and I feel very accomplished and proud of where we are today.
 
From your days as a pop star to the present time, your influence resonates with many young girls from that era now wearing your designs today. What imprint or influence do you think you have left on women?

I have always wanted to help women feel like the best version of themselves because when you feel like the best version of yourself, you can take on anything!

You and David have consistently stayed on top as one of the most iconic power couples for decades. What’s your secret?

Family is everything to me. I love what I do and I’m so passionate about it, and I’m very grateful that my family is there supporting me every step of the way. David is a very kind person; such an amazing father and husband, we just really laugh and have a great time together at the end of the day.
 
What’s one thing people often assume about you that is not true?

That I don’t smile! The truth is, I take what I do very seriously but not myself, I like to have a laugh!
 
Your followers and admirers now have the chance to get to know you in a more personal and authentic way on social media. What prompted the shift in your communication style on these platforms?

Historically, there has been a perception of me from the media. But now, with social media, people are able to see the real me. I have always stayed true to myself and what I love.
