Unpacking Chanel’s fall-winter 2025 collection: A visual sonnet of heritage and the ever-evolving Chanel woman

The house's quintessential elements—bows, ribbons, pearls, and the camillia—were reborn with dramatic flair, revitalised with a newfound sense of whimsy and sophisticated grandeur. Bows appeared in every conceivable iteration, from delicate accents on collars and cuffs to dramatic cascades down a statement black down jacket and sweatpants ensemble. A white knitted ribbon wrapped elegantly around a black sweater, culminating in a sculptural bow at the shoulder that echoed the installation overhead.

Gabrielle Chanel's beloved pearls received a maximalist treatment. Heels crafted from single oversized pearls supported elegant footwear, crossbody bags mimicked exaggerated pearl necklaces, and jewellery sets shimmered with rhinestone embellishments. Denim is reimagined in whisper-light chiffon, whilst silk takes on the appearance of tweed, challenging the viewer’s expectations of texture and weight. A motif of floating ribbons appears as a print, further extending the theme of illusion.

Even outerwear embraces fragility—an organza hooded parka, adorned with delicate bows, strikes a balance between utilitarianism and elegance. The footwear selection reinforces the sense of femininity that underpins the collection. Sock-ankle boots elongate the leg, whilst a pair of satin bouillonné shoes feature soft, ruched detailing along the vamp, evoking a sense of romance.

In an industry often fixated on individual creative genius, Chanel’s fall-winter 2025/26 collection offered a resounding reminder that fashion’s most storied legacies are sustained by collective expertise and institutional vision. As the fashion world now turns its attention toward Matthieu Blazy's forthcoming debut, this collection served as both a reflective pause and a glimpse into the maison’s ever-evolving narrative, where Chanel’s iconic codes are revitalised in ways that feel both timeless and timely, both reverent and revolutionary.
