As Chanel stands at the threshold of a new creative chapter, the maison’s fall-winter 2025/26 collection emerged as a poetic meditation between heritage and evolution—a testament to its enduring ability to reinvent itself whilst remaining unmistakably, quintessentially Chanel
After a whirlwind season of shows and industry-shaking revelations, the fall-winter 2025 fashion week circuit has officially come to a close, although the dust is far from settled. Paris, as always, marked the grand finale, leaving us with no shortage of moments to dissect, discuss, and dream about in the lingering echoes of a season caught in the flux of upheavals and reinventions, giving fashion insiders much to ruminate on—what was, what is, and what’s next.

Against this backdrop of shifting tides and mounting anticipation, the final day of the French capital’s fall-winter 2025 run kicked off, as per tradition, with Chanel taking the lead. As Matthieu Blazy prepares to take creative control next month (with his debut scheduled for October), the in-house Fashion Creation Studio team put together what marked a transitional collection that honoured both continuity and evolution—a poetic homage to Chanel's most cherished codes, a love letter to the maison’s legacy, serving as a symbolic passing of the torch.

The venue itself was an extension of the collection's conceptual foundation. Under the soaring glass dome of the Grand Palais, where decades of Chanel history have unfolded, the space was once again transformed into a theatrical dreamscape. The centrepiece—a colossal swirling black ribbon installation by scenographer Willo Perron—unfurled across the space, setting the stage for the collection's thematic framework: an exploration of scale, proportion, and Chanel's storied heritage.
What emerged was a collection that delivered a compelling statement of artistic conviction and clarity, steeped in reverence for the maison’s enduring signatures.

The house's quintessential elements—bows, ribbons, pearls, and the camillia—were reborn with dramatic flair, revitalised with a newfound sense of whimsy and sophisticated grandeur. Bows appeared in every conceivable iteration, from delicate accents on collars and cuffs to dramatic cascades down a statement black down jacket and sweatpants ensemble. A white knitted ribbon wrapped elegantly around a black sweater, culminating in a sculptural bow at the shoulder that echoed the installation overhead.
Gabrielle Chanel's beloved pearls received a maximalist treatment. Heels crafted from single oversized pearls supported elegant footwear, crossbody bags mimicked exaggerated pearl necklaces, and jewellery sets shimmered with rhinestone embellishments. These elements, all deeply embedded in Chanel’s DNA, were transformed into something simultaneously familiar and fresh.

Silhouettes leaned into the interplay between structure and fluidity, reinforcing the house’s duality of strength and grace. The classic tweed jacket, ever synonymous with Chanel, was reimagined with exaggerated shoulders and cinched waists, creating a striking contrast between power and poise. Some iterations featured elongated lapels and sleek, sculptural cuts, whilst others embraced an air of relaxed nonchalance with slouchy, oversized fits. The fabric itself took on new dimensions—some woven with metallic threads for a subtle shimmer, others fringed at the edges for a sense of undone elegance.
This artful play on proportions and contrasts, tradition and modernity extended to the styling, with harmoniously juxtaposed layers of fabric and form building visual intrigue. Cropped jackets were paired with matching flared trousers and/or skirts, lending an air of contemporary ease to otherwise impeccably tailored ensembles, whilst sheer tulle overlays created a sense of ethereal movement and dimensionality through a gossamer trompe l'oeil effect, as if the garments themselves were imbued with a gentle, shifting rhythm.

Elsewhere, delicate yet daring details weave throughout the collection, reinforcing Chanel’s dedication to craftsmanship and poetic storytelling. Denim is reimagined in whisper-light chiffon, whilst silk takes on the appearance of tweed, challenging the viewer’s expectations of texture and weight. A motif of floating ribbons appears as a print, further extending the theme of illusion.

Even outerwear embraces fragility—an organza hooded parka, adorned with delicate bows, strikes a balance between utilitarianism and elegance. The footwear selection reinforces the sense of femininity that underpins the collection. Sock-ankle boots elongate the leg, whilst a pair of satin bouillonné shoes feature soft, ruched detailing along the vamp, evoking a sense of romance.

In an industry often fixated on individual creative genius, Chanel’s fall-winter 2025/26 collection offered a resounding reminder that fashion’s most storied legacies are sustained by collective expertise and institutional vision. As the fashion world now turns its attention toward Matthieu Blazy's forthcoming debut, this collection served as both a reflective pause and a glimpse into the maison’s ever-evolving narrative, where Chanel’s iconic codes are revitalised in ways that feel both timeless and timely, both reverent and revolutionary.
By masterfully threading the past into the present, the Fashion Creation Studio demonstrated that even in the face of change, the essence of Chanel—its mastery of proportions, its celebration of feminine strength through elegant refinement, and its capacity for reinvention—remains gloriously intact.
