The charismatic 25-year-old who effortlessly navigates Singapore society with impeccable style now embarks on a creative journey

Dyon Foo and his mother Jessie share not only a bloodline but an entrepreneurial spirit, which is behind a thriving jewellery business. While the charismatic 25-year-old effortlessly navigates Singapore society with impeccable style from a curated closet of the season’s hottest trends, his sartorial prowess is more than skin deep.

It is a reflection of the influence of his mother, whose grace is only surpassed by her business acumen. “Armed with nothing but a bag and a suitcase filled with jewellery in 1992, my mother embarked on a courageous journey to support our family,” shares Foo, holding back tears.

“Her founding of Yuli Jewellery wasn’t just a mere business venture; it was the physical manifestation of her dreams and an embodiment of her relentless hard work. She knocked on doors, faced numerous rejections and weathered countless storms, all with the singular goal of creating a better life for her children.”

Foo, who is currently studying accountancy at Monash University in Australia, joined the family business after his national service. “I first started with Yuli’s operations, then marketing, and eventually became an integral part of the decision-making process. I found myself drawn not only to the business itself but also to the ethos it represents,” he says. “Even the meticulous selection of quality gemstones became more than a mere task—it became my pursuit of perfection and an homage to the craftsmanship that defines the brand”.

Foo’s relationship with his mother transcends the typical parent-child dynamic: it is a partnership where mutual respect and creativity intertwine. “The only reason why I’m so hard on myself is because of the big shoes I have to fill. Yuli is a testament to my mother’s unwavering determination, resilience and the indomitable spirit that defines our family’s journey. It also symbolises the sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears that have paved the way for me to stand on my dreams,” he reveals.

A true mummy’s boy, the Hwa Chong International School alumnus’ academic choices have been informed by the values his mother imparted to him. “My education isn’t just a stack of certificates. It’s a living tribute to the unbreakable spirit of my mum,” he enthuses. “What I’m currently reading at university is also closely tied to my future goals of supporting my mother in her business. I believe that a Bachelor of Commerce would greatly help to provide me with a deeper understanding of business management, economics and marketing”.

With a future as bright as it is sparkling, no doubt Yuli Jewellery awaits Foo after his graduation.
