The red carpet wasn’t just for the ladies. See all the men who impressed us with their fashionable ensembles at our 40th anniversary soirée

Not to toot our own horn, but anyone who’s anyone will know that the Tatler Ball is the society event of the year. And this year’s one was already bound to special: it marked the ball’s return after a two-year hiatus, as well as Tatler Singapore’s 40th anniversary. So how do you turn up for an occasion as significant as that?

Well, you show in up legendary style, as the men on our guest list did. Not to be outdone by the dazzling ladies that they accompanied, the men of the 2022 Tatler Ball flaunted their fair share of sequins and velvets on the red carpet. Here, we highlight the most outstanding outfits we spotted.

Most Unconventional: Jeffrey Piak

Tatler Asia

Jeffrey Piak was the coolest dad at the Tatler Ball. For proof, look to his red carpet outfit, which comprised a “cracked”, cut-out blazer from Louis Vuitton. His suit was only topped by his accessories: Piak didn’t wear a bow or a tie, but instead showed off his gold chain necklaces. Now that’s what we call a baller.

Most Androgynous: Shigga Shay

Tatler Asia

Just as he experiments with his music, Shigga Shay did not shy away from unconventional style on the red carpet. His Louis Vuitton top featured romantic florals and a corseted bodice, all traditionally feminine details that the green-haired Gen.T honouree pulled off with enviable nonchalance.

Most Daring: Gaurav Kripalani

Tatler Asia

Now, don’t get us wrong. The Tatler Ball was full of guests who jumped through hoops to offer us surprising and intriguing looks on the red carpet. But Gaurav Kripalani deserves this title because he came out to our birthday bash in an impeccable white tuxedo, and you only do that if you have the finesse to power through a night of feasting, drinking and dancing without getting a single stain on your clothes.

Most Dapper: Clement Piak

Tatler Asia

We really appreciate Clement Piak’s devotion to our black-tie dress code. Although not many of the older lads showed up in a traditional three-piece suit, Piak did so with a colourful flourish, thanks to his brilliant choice of a jewel-tone velvet jacket.

Most Auspicious: Adrian Peh

Tatler Asia

We love a man who can commit to a couple’s fashion moment. Following his wife Susan Peh’s lead, Adrian Peh showed up decked in bold, bright red, a colour of fortune and prosperity (and the colour of our ruby anniversary!). His glittering suit was only outdone by his wife’s satin ballgown, and her clever little birthday cake accessory.

Most Elegant: Kevin Chua

Tatler Asia

Achieving elegance requires a sense of balance, and Kevin Chua certainly knew how to keep things low-key without being boring as his wife Iroshini Chua conquered the red carpet in her big blue ballgown. His silk navy suit, topped with a black bow tie, is a study of understated style.

Most Dramatic: Ernest Rex Tan

Tatler Asia

Sure, his wife Grace Chong-Tan may have taken up the spotlight with her 50-year-old Oscar de la Renta gown, but Ernest Rex Tan was no sartorial slouch either. In his golden brocade suit jacket, he made a royal pair with his wife.

Best Shoes: Benjamin Kim

Tatler Asia

If his wife Serene Tan resembled a dreamy princess, Benjamin Kim certainly looked the part of her prince in his brocade matador jacket. The statement jacket was expertly layered with a vest that boasted a metallic sheen, matching his wife’s dress. But our favourite part of Kim’s look? His glittering shoes.

Shiniest Outfit: Anant Gupta

Tatler Asia

Anant Gupta and his wife Leanne Robers certainly upended red carpet conventions: she came in an understated black suit, while he brought the sparkles and the colours with his sequin jacket.

Sultriest Outfit: Dyon Foo

Tatler Asia

On the red carpet, Dyon Foo turned the temperature up with a twist on the classic suit. Beneath his boxy Ferragamo blazer, which was matched with wide leg pants, Foo ditched a shirt entirely and wore a vest instead—all the better to show off his statement necklace. That skin-baring moment is one for the style history books.
