In the wake of Prince Charles’s admission of infidelity, on national television no less, it would have been easy for Princess Diana to stay quiet and let the news pass. Instead, she chose to alter the narrative by celebrating herself and showing him exactly what he was missing out on.
 
When exiting the car in Kensington Gardens to attend a dinner at the Serpentine Gallery in 1994, photographers had less than a minute to photograph what would now become Diana’s most iconic look—but that’s all they needed. Few things feel better than a massive dose of confidence, and we can only imagine how powerful Princess Diana must felt wearing what we know as her “revenge dress”.

The black Christina Stambolian gown was a risqué choice for her royal status, with its off-the-shoulder neckline and slim fitting cut that accentuated her figure. But, as Stambolian explained, using references to Black Swan, “[Diana] chose not to play the scene like Odette, innocent in white. She played it like Odile. She was clearly angry."
 
Nevertheless, Princess Diana made all the headlines with grace and her expressions of joy made her look radiant. If making a strong point is on your agenda, these are modern takes on the dress that will assist you.
