Among the many things we imagine one might learn from being a royal is how to wear a suit impeccably. For his birthday, we look at what the Duke of Sussex’s style reveals about his personal tastes
Prince Harry has had a busy year since the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II: he released and went on a book tour for his memoir, Spare, in January; was present for the coronation of his father, King Charles III, in May; and he’s been attending multiple days of the Invictus Games this week.
What these events have in common is that he’d shown up impeccably dressed in suits that reflect his understanding of what works for him and the occasion. Of course, you’d expect that from a man who was trained from birth to mind the significance of every event he attends, where he’s be photographed from every angle. However, there is more to Prince Harry’s style than meets the eye.

It is also possibly indicative of the prince’s sentimental streak. For example, when he attended his grandmother’s funeral, he opted for a grey pinstriped trouser, rather than an all-black ensemble—a similar look to one he wore to a wedding that he’d attended with the late queen in 2019.
To celebrate Prince Harry’s birthday, we look at how he styles his suits, and why it works so well.
1. He knows his colours

Prince Harry’s recognisable red hair means that he’s working with a select colour palettes, but he honours that and sticks to shades that suits him. Blues, greys and neutrals all work well to complement his features, and he doesn’t stray too far from them.
2. He occasionally forgoes a tie

Prince Harry doesn’t always wear a tie with his suits, and this creates a uniquely casual effect not often seen in traditional royal dressing. This styling alludes to his mother, Princess Diana, who took plenty of fashion risks during her time.

Following his mother’s influence, Prince Harry often incorporates a unique element to his suits: it might be a pop of colour in the lining of his suit, as seen with a flash of peacock blue, or he’ll play with around with colour, as he did with this suit and tie combo in lighter shades of blue.
4. He complements his wife

When Prince Harry attends events with his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, he’ll make the effort to coordinate his look with her and either match colours or wear complementary shades. Whether it’s a less formal look or a glamorous get-up, it makes for a visually pleasing effect.
