The accessory of the summer is finally available as part of Loewe’s Paula’s Ibiza 2025 collection

There’s no denying Loewe’s trademark whimsy and aptitude for world building. After all, the brand’s uncanny ability to adapt to the times and engage with its enthusiastic following are exactly what makes it such a celebrated cornerstone of fashion today. Enter the Loewe Tomato clutch. It’s the perfect example of how internet culture and high fashion can come together to create an instant frenzy. The summer fruit-shaped accessory is finally available as part of the Paula’s Ibiza 2025 collection.

The tomato clutch can trace its origins to an exchange on social media in June 2024, when a X user posted a photo of a plump, glossy red heirloom tomato. Another user commented on the image with the remark, “This tomato is so Loewe I can’t explain it.” The tweet quickly soared in popularity, with users noting how the fruit’s natural shape aligns with Loewe’s playful design ethos.

Then-creative director Jonathan Anderson noticed the viral exchange and shared it on his Instagram account. And within says, he unveiled a video of the tomato clutch, captioned “Loewe meme to reality.”

The clutch is crafted to closely mimic the shape and surface of a large heirloom tomato. It is constructed from a moulded metal frame covered nappa lambskin, a supple and pliable leather chosen for its ability to mimic the ribbed texture of the red, ripe fruit. The bag is sculpted with curves, folds and grooves that replicate the tomato’s natural look. Its top consists of a golden leafy crown which serves as a functional lock and handle.

Transforming overnight from internet meme to luxury accessory, the tomato clutch highlights Loewe—and Anderson’s—unique ability to harness viral moments and translate them into sophisticated, luxurious accessories. It’s an approach that not only resonates with younger audiences, but strengthens Loewe’s reputation as a brand unafraid to adapt and experiment.
