Lupita Nyong'o makes us want to experiment with every piece in our closet

Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o often graces the red carpet with confidence to express and never to compete. She uses the opportunity to artistically collaborate with her entourage including her long-time stylist, Micaela Erlanger. Over the years, since her first red carpet appearance, the actress has inspired many of us to have a look at our own closets and try on pieces in stunning colours. To keep us inspired, we've culled a few looks below that we admire.

1. Basking in Her Natural Glow

The actress took her time basking in the sun as she donned a custom Michael Kors piece—a brown sleeveless top and a long, pleated skirt—that complements her glowing skin. Nyong'o wore the gown, looking like a goddess, at the Critic's Choice Awards in 2020.

2. Never Blue

Ngyong'o never shies away from the sun and instead lies on a daybed in a bright blue one-piece while relaxing at a spa called Mii amo.

3. Always Light-hearted

Contrary to the roles Nyong'o plays on screen, the actress is often seen with a bright smile on her face. It's a quality that matches her taste in fashion. However, out of all the colours she'd worn, we can all agree that yellow pieces like this hand-knitted sweater from Xoli truly brings out Nyong'o's beauty.

4. On Cloud Nine at the Oscars

We've witnessed Nyong'o's budding "love affair" with Prada at the 86th Academy Awards when she wore a custom powder blue gown designed by the fashion house. This cloud-like number was the perfect dress for the actress to wear at the time as she received her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, a feeling that some might describe as floating on cloud nine.

5. Arrived in Armour

Nyong'o was dazzling when she arrived at the premiere of Black Panther in 2018 donning a custom Versace gown in purple that's reminiscent of her costume in the movie where she plays the role of the warrior Nakia. The dress, which was embroidered with metal spikes and had a long, flowy train, matched the overall colour theme at the premiere, and yet the actress still stood out.

6. A Hot Day for Nyong'o

Nyong'o looks amazing in a hot pink and red dress from Schiaparelli which matches her chic Malone Souliers heels and Mark Cross sling bag. She wore this look on Telemundo's Un Nuevo Dia to promote her movie, Us in 2019.

7. Queen of the Night

During the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival at Chateau de la Croix des Gardes, Nyong'o arrived at the Chopard Secret Night where she captivated the crowd in a rose pink dress by Prada. She twirled her gown for the cameras and looked absolutely captivating under the stars.

8. Colour Me Impressed

Most people might turn away from wearing bright hues. But Nyong'o does not mind experimenting and wearing neon green Valentino dress when she accepted her New York Film Critics Circle award in 2020.

9. Crowd Stunner

Nyong'o can make heads turn regardless if dons a piece in any hue, and her multi-colour ensemble at the 2019 Met Gala. She arrived at the red carpet in a printed Versace gown with rainbow-coloured ruffles and a symbolic hairstyle done by Vernon Francois.
