The French fashion brand is offering 22 ultra limited-edition Artycapucines bags

Art collectors who missed out on purchasing their favourite Louis Vuitton Artycapcuines bag are now in luck. The French luxury brand is re-releasing a collection of its artist-designed handbags—this time, at a Sotheby’s auction.

A total of 22 Louis Vuitton Artycapucines bags will be going under the hammer. That includes the colourful iteration created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, which features a rainbow handle and a beaded harlequin exterior, as well as the minimalist white Urs Fischer-designed bag that features realistic charms of a banana, apple and an egg. Another standout is Peter Marino’s studded black Artycapucines bag, which is inspired by a medieval trunk and comes with its own functioning padlock.

The other artists whose Louis Vuitton Artycapucines collaborations will be offered at the auction are Amélie Bertrand, Daniel Buren, Sam Falls, Gregor Hildebrandt, Donna Huanca, Huang Yuxing, Alex Israel, Liu Wei, Beatriz Milhazes, Vik Muniz, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Park Seo-Bo, Paola Pivi, Tschabalala Self, Josh Smith, Jonas Wood, Kennedy Yanko, Zeng Fanzhi and Zhao Zhao.

Each bag has been meticulously remade to resemble the original limited-edition designs that Louis Vuitton previously launched in its stores. But they also feature a little something special: the respective artist’s signature now appears under the flap of these one-off bags. The designs will also be packaged in a monogram Louis Vuitton Boîte Chapeau, which will also be signed.

The Louis Vuitton and Sotheby’s Artycapucines auction will kick off on Wednesday, June 28 on Sotheby’s website (sothebys.com). It will run until July 12. Net proceeds from the sale of each bag will be donated to a charity or non-profit organisations of the artist’s choice, which includes UNICEF, as well as organisations working in poverty reduction, disaster relief, education and refugee rights.

If you merely want to appreciate the artistry of these ultra-rare Louis Vuitton handbags, you can also head to the Sotheby’s Paris headquarters on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where all 22 bags will be displayed in a public exhibition from July 1 to 5.
