Find out what James Lie is buying this week—from Loro Piana sneakers to Carl Auböck bottle stoppers
James Lie is a man of great taste. While his day job as the head of his family’s investment firm is more black and white, his passion for art and design allows him to really show off his creative flair.
The University of Sydney graduate is not only a patron of Asia Art Archive (AAA), an independent non-profit organisation that documents the multiple recent histories of art in Asia, but an avid collector himself, with a keen eye and deep appreciation for contemporary art. Lee Bul, Sterling Ruby and India Madhavi are just some of the artists he admires.
Whether sharing views on his favourite pieces up for auction at the city’s hottest charity events, or attending the newest gallery openings, art and design is one topic Lie never tires of. His Instagram account @mondaytough is a sneak peek into his world—from days spent at the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York or at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh in Arles in France (and better still, in quarantine with pieces of artwork provided for inspiration by Alexandra Seno, the AAA’s former head of development).
His love for art is obvious in his shopping selection, too—textured shoes, centuries-old home décor items and modern designed garments are what get his heart racing. Check out what he’s coveting this week below:
Ellen Pull sweater, Sease
“I discovered Sease a few years ago in St. Moritz. The brand’s functional wear has a sophisticated appeal to it and it’s all top quality, and with their modern and transitional design, you can wear the same piece on the slope and in the city. The brand is now represented by The Ski Project in Hong Kong.”
