Fendi elevates its iconic Peekaboo bag with a softer silhouette and exquisite materials, offering the season’s ultimate versatile accessory
Established in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, the House of Fendi has long been synonymous with Italian craftsmanship and quality. Originally a family-owned fur and leather shop in Rome, the brand quickly expanded its range to include cosmetics, ready-to-wear collections and accessories. Today, a Fendi family member is still at the helm of the brand—Silvia Venturini Fendi, the granddaughter of Adele and Edoardo, serves as artistic director. She is also the designer of two unmistakable Fendi icons: the Baguette bag and the Peekaboo bag.
The Peekaboo first appeared in Fendi’s spring-summer 2009 show, and achieved verified It-bag status soon after debuting in stores. Designed with simplicity and sophistication in mind, the antithesis to the logomania of the noughties, the Peekaboo was the epitome of quiet luxury before the trend was even a thought.

The bag is aptly named for the way its interior compartments are ever-so-slightly revealed when left unfastened, thanks to clever construction and weighted hardware. Fendi made it chic—not lazy—to leave a purse unlocked, showcasing its intricate craftsmanship and hand‑stitching. A timeless and classic silhouette, the Peekaboo has been reinterpreted in a variety of colours and textures, from sequins and diamonds to shearling. This year, Fendi unveils another stunning evolution of its iconic Peekaboo bag, with the introduction of the Peekaboo Soft for autumn-winter 2024.
The ultimate expression of the brand’s icon, it is crafted from a new sumptuous and exquisite calf leather obtained through mineral tanning. The process creates an intrinsically soft and silky textured leather that further enhances the natural wearability of the bag. This is accentuated by the addition of a new fixed yet adjustable elongated handle that allows for versatile styling, enabling the bag to be carried comfortably close to the body, almost like a second skin.

Fendi has taken care to maintain the Peekaboo’s signature trapezoid silhouette while softening its construction. The hard edges have been smoothed, creating a more approachable design that accentuates the Peekaboo’s signature “smile” when opened, and the signature metal bar is similarly lightened and clothed in leather.

Within the bag, the interior is lined with resplendent suede, reinterpreting the concept of preciousness both inside and outside. The innate classicism and natural beauty of the bag is enriched through a sophisticated colour palette, a celebration of natural tones ranging from warm earthy browns to greens, complemented by a striking vibrant blue. For those with a more exotic appetite, Fendi presents avant‑garde iterations of the Peekaboo in mink fur, smooth croco nabuk, and shiny super soft croco kashmir—a true sublimation of the maison’s mastery in materials.
