Tatler looks back as it prepares to launch the 2022 edition of Asia’s Most Stylish next month, celebrating the men and women deemed as sartorial luminaries through the years
For more than 12 years now, we have been celebrating the best of the best in style and fashion. First launched in 2009, the magazine's recognition of Asia's Most Stylish honours the country's top innovative and creative trendsetters—ladies and gentlemen who are effortlessly chic in expressing themselves through an assortment of stylish sartorial choices.
This 2022, as events come back in full swing and gatherings are more extensive, Tatler has once again stepped out to search for style icons who know how to break boundaries. In the 21st anniversary issue next month, Tatler will announce the deserving trailblazers who have caught their eye. This selection will be composed of men and women from various interesting backgrounds and lifestyles. Though they express themselves differently, they all share that familiar je ne sais quoi that instantly makes one the centre of attention in any room or party.

Tatler takes this task seriously. In the past, one woman from each of the eight Asian countries where Tatler is present—Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Mainland China, Taiwan and Thailand—were recognised by their respective countries as part of Asia’s Most Stylish. They were then whisked off to a fantastic foreign locale, where they took part in a photoshoot by some of the world's best photographers. Previous shoot locations included Venice, Beijing and Macau. A programme proper—including parties, dinner and drinks—completed the sojourn, marking a memorable trip for the eight ladies.

In 2009, designer Bea Valdes was the first standard-bearer for Tatler Philippines’ Asia’s Most Stylish. She was followed by Audrey Puckett, Nina Huang, and Nanette Medved-Po. Other ladies who have held the title include Felicia Atienza, who travelled to the Park Hyatt Beijing for her photoshoot, and current Tatler Homes Philippines editor Stephanie Zubiri, who flew to Venice where she attended a dinner hosted by Italian shoe designer Rene Caovilla. Zubiri also participated in an inspiring Dianne von Fürstenberg fashion show in Italy.

As times changed, Tatler reformatted Asia’s Most Stylish list to become more inclusive. Now, multiple style icons are included in the annual list. Trendsetters from all over Asia are given credit in the magazine. People of all sizes and ages are represented as well. In 2020, with the added challenge of a pandemic, Tatler Asia expanded the list to include plus-size fashion designer Naomi Watanabe and Taiwanese nonagenarian fashion model Yun-Juan Hao. Instagram influencer, Coco Pink Princess, was also chosen. And our very own cover girl and Tatler Philippines Asia’s Most Stylish lady, Camille Co-Koro, stunned in a black sequined Nadine Merabi jumpsuit and an ethereal Beaufille dress. Other Filipinos celebrated in the 2020 list included editor Ria Prieto and fashion stylist Liz Uy.

In 2021, Tatler moved to include more men into the list, alongside more of the youth who are doubtless shaping the way Filipinos see trends. Fashion designer Vania Romoff is on the cover in a Jacquemus outfit, followed by a dress of her creation. Debonair men such as Dr Hayden Kho and Dr Z Teo, photographer BJ Pascual, and businessmen Donnie Tantoco and Eric Dee Jr were also honoured as part of the list.
Kai Lim, Kryz Uy, Nadine Lustre, and Liza Soberano are just a few of the other women whom Tatler Philippines celebrated last year. All successful ladies embody a different and unique fashion sense that shines through not just in their clothing but in the way they carry themselves. Lustre, with her edgy streetwear, always keeps things exciting. At the same time, the young actress, Soberano, exudes sweet and feminine energy that sees her effortlessly pulling off minidresses and boots on the same day. A playful dresser, Lim loves outfits that showcase “feminine menswear”, while Uy keeps things fun by showcasing a classic “but not boring” style.
Undoubtedly, our Asia’s Most Stylish list will be even more exciting this year. Tatler is excited to showcase a variety of styles, honouring people from different industries, ages
and backgrounds.
