When one thinks of style, she naturally comes into the picture—effortlessly chic as always. A multihyphenate of all things fashion, this stylist, author and editor-at-large is renowned for her remarkable eye and voguish flair, a visionary that dictates fashion milieus near and far. She is also the founder and creative director of Stylized Studio, the styling studio highly sought-after by the Philippines’ biggest brands and personalities.

2. Cara Mia S Limjap

This self-proclaimed alchemist is best known for her take on Filipino lifestyle. She and her team are behind Halohalo store, an all-around brand that specialises in home goods, leather bags and home accessories. “I feel like [all my projects] are my children that I can’t let go of,” Limjap laughs. “I’m most proud of the fact that I can keep sustaining what I love doing [and] that work is never work, it’s always fun.”

3. CJ Cruz

Filipino streetwear has become a celebrated choice of style, and much of it has to do with the innovations set forth by the founder of his eponymous brand, Carl Jan Cruz, which has gained recognition among sartorial contemporaries for its unique form and Filipino-inspired elements. Admittedly, the pandemic had challenged the young designer, though he continues to take inspiration from previous works such as “Pambahay” and “PangOkasyon”, a versatile range of design pieces that still managed to tie itself to the brand’s contemporary Filipino DNA.

Styling

This creative consultant has plenty of respect for other artists. Though his work has always centred on Philippine fashion, he mentions that architects and filmmakers are among those who inspire him the most. “[Like architects, I] collaborate with many other artists in different disciplines and make it work like a symphony to create one single output.” His works have celebrated local fashion through projects that include the Bench Design Awards, Ternocon, and representation at New York and Tokyo Fashion Weeks.

5. Bea Valdes

Internationally renowned, this fashion designer has been praised with numerous accolades and her creations considered a “must-have” by many sartorial luminaries. As to her favourite project, she candidly shares that it is always “the next one”. “I always say this to focus and challenge myself moving forward,” she says. Though the designer has had plenty of experience in the creative field, she’s never one to forego a new lesson. “The nature of jumping into unknown territory is always expansive and exciting,” she reveals.

6. Gabbie Sarenas

Her fashion creations are distinguished by her mastery of hand-embroidery and her vision of proud Filipino style. Her works are well thought out and done with care. She likes it as a love letter to our country, but one that every man or woman can wear. Impassioned though she may be, she is not exempt from difficulties, such as burnout. “The challenge is… learning how to be comfortable with the unknown path once again and where it’ll take me,” she muses.

7. Erica Concepcion Reyes

Jewellery & Accessories

Her love for intricately made vintage jewelleries is a trait passed down to her by Do a Victoria Lopez-Araneta, her grandmother. As a jeweller, she always has a keen eye for striking antique materials that she could turn into mesmerising accessories. This artisan loves using corals, coloured gemstones, pearls, diamonds and vintage coins.

8. Pam Quiñones

Styling

From the most laid-back loungewear to the most fabulous gown, she knows exactly what she brings to the table—and we love it. When not dressing celebrities for their many affairs, she can be found styling cover shoots for top magazines or creating digital content with brands. As the founder of her own incubator Qurator Studio, she has mentored many aspiring talents too. With a philosophy that promotes a balance of the masculine and feminine, form and function, she continues to promote and elevate the local fashion industry.

9. Pia Garcia-Morera

A woman of many hats, this mother, entrepreneur and designer is also the co-founder of Viajecito Inc and the owner of fashion label, Flutter Collection. Since its launch in 2016, Viajecito Inc has gained an international following, and is sold in Australia, through the American lifestyle brand Anthropologie, and in high-end resorts and department stores such as Rustan’s. With her background in fine arts, advertising and marketing, she continues to lead her brands in product development and creation.

This young jeweller who has always dreamt of making bespoke pieces that bring additional colour and story to people’s everyday attire started making fine jewellery in 2011. In the business for more than a decade now, Whisenhunt offers a tip for creatives who are just starting out: “As a designer, you’ll face a lot of different challenges, but the most important thing is to stay committed. A lot of hard work is needed to make it happen but the reward of doing something you love to do is incomparable.”

11. Lilianna Manahan

Creativity leads her to explore the landscape of the jewellery industry, such as glass smithing and metalsmithing. All her skills are used to create astonishing pieces that have brought her brand to a special niche and her name fast gaining the reputation of a jewellery designer to watch. Her journey becomes more admirable considering the huge creative block she suffered in 2018. Funk in Flux, her first jewellery collection launched last year, remains a favourite together with her glass works circa 2016-2017.

At a time when most businesses are forced to shut their doors during the pandemic, this jewellery maker refused to cave in. She hang on to her natural inclination towards creating valuable accessories. “The uncertainty during the first lockdown was daunting. The lingering thought I had was to give up what I built and just get into painting again. Thanks to my wonderful team, I was able to be back on track towards the end of the first pandemic.”
