With ‘Verity’ in cinemas, revisit Dakota Johnson’s boldest looks, from red-carpet glamour to daring fashion moments
Sheer lace, crystal fringe, bare waists and sculptural tailoring: Dakota Johnson is leaning into a sharper kind of glamour. The actress, who celebrated her 37th birthday on October 4, has worn a run of striking looks, from barely-there lace to sharply cut tailoring, as she promoted her new psychological thriller, Verity. Styled by her longtime collaborator Kate Young, the looks favour clean lines, architectural details and statement jewellery. Here are some of Johnson’s standout looks that show her taking a bolder approach to red-carpet dressing.

Dakota Johnson’s Calvin Klein crystal-fringe two-piece at the ‘Verity’ New York premiere
At the New York premiere of Verity at AMC Lincoln Square, Dakota Johnson wore a custom ivory two-piece by Veronica Leoni for Calvin Klein Collection. A bralette top and a floor-grazing column skirt were covered in tiers of hand-strung glass crystal and silver bugle-bead fringe. Alongside co-star Anne Hathaway’s black lace Atelier Prabal Gurung gown, the pair echoed the duel between their characters, Lowen and Verity. A twisted half-up knot, a diamond tennis collar and a matte crimson lip finished the look.
Dakota Johnson’s knotted black blazer and wrap midi skirt: street-style tailoring with a stiletto edge
In Manhattan, Dakota Johnson reinterpreted the suit in head-to-toe black. Her single-breasted blazer had an elongated front hem tied into an oversized knot at the navel, worn with an asymmetrical wrap midi skirt fastened by trailing ties. A sliver of torso between the two softened the corporate structure. Glossy pointed-toe, knee-high stiletto boots grounded the look, while a chalk-white leather baguette bag tucked under her arm and slim rectangular sunglasses added graphic contrast. It is sleek, urban and provocative—proof that a suit can be daring without a single loud detail.
Dakota Johnson’s Colleen Allen lace gown at the ‘Verity’ UK gala screening
At the Verity gala screening at London’s Curzon Mayfair, Dakota Johnson reworked the naked dress. Her off-white Colleen Allen gown in French floral lace had a plunging V-neckline and tiered, ruffled lapels. Rather than hide the transparency, she heightened it with black Fleur du Mal lingerie. The result was antique romance meeting sharp boudoir edge. A hand-engraved gold and diamond necklace from Cece Jewellery, worn close to the throat, added polish.

Dakota Johnson’s Valentino gown: Grecian drama in flowing chiffon
Dakota Johnson’s pale mint-grey draped gown, from Valentino’s Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, featured a minimalist bodice and a high thigh-slit skirt. A sweeping, full-length silk chiffon cape completed the high-fantasy silhouette, fastened at the throat by a silver collar piece. Undone beach waves, soft rosy lips and black heels kept the formality in check—a signature tension between elevated romance and everyday ease.

At the Red Sea International Film Festival opening ceremony in Jeddah, Dakota Johnson swapped sheer for sculpture. Her custom Alessandra Rich gown in matte black crepe combined a V-neckline, horizontal hip cutouts, an open back and a drooping bow at the navel. The centre-split skirt flashed Paris Texas pumps.
