Chanel touches down in Manchester for its latest Métiers d’Art 2023/24 show, transforming Thomas Street into a glamorous runway

As a new year draws closer and fashion houses around the world are unveiling their final offerings of the year for pre-fall 2024, Chanel has once again taken this opportunity to pay homage to its ateliers and the exceptional craftsmanship of their artisans with the maison’s annual Métiers d’Art collection.

This year, the collection serves as an ode to the centuries-old creative dialogue between Chanel and Great Britain, with the electrifying spirit of Manchester’s music culture sitting at the heart of Virginie Viard’s vision. Amidst a rainy winter evening, Viard’s vision was brought to life along Thomas Street in the North of Manchester.

The house’s signature codes permeated the collection, elevated with an array of radiant hues, scintillating details, and ’60s-esque silhouettes that are quintessentially Britain. Tweed took centre stage, tailored impeccably into godet miniskirts, coat-dresses, and Bermuda shorts adorned in lavender, salmon pink, apple green, and sky blue.

Whilst preserving the classic, feminine elegance of Chanel’s heritage, skirts are fitted yet worn slightly low on the waist, paired with jewelled, chained, and beaded belts for a bold contrast. Elsewhere, intricate embroidery, pleated and feather details, headpieces, and jewelled buttons exquisitely crafted at the le19M atelier were undoubtedly the cherries on top, finalising each look with an eccentric allure that evoked the exuberance of Manchester.
