Bottega Veneta’s latest collection contrasts highly wearable wardrobe staples with over-the-top, conceptual pieces

If you’ve been on social media—or not—you might be aware that Italian luxury house Bottega Veneta, under creative director Daniel Lee, withdrew from all social media channels earlier this year.

This radical move was accompanied by the decision to break away from fashion’s traditional biannual show calendar, and ultimately culminated in the release of Bottega Veneta’s Salon 02 collection at a top secret, no-cameras-allowed event.

Now, months later, following the global launch of Salon 02, the luxury brand has finally released images of its latest ready-to-wear collection.

Celebrating the high-octane and the resplendent, Bottega Veneta’s latest collection contrasts exaggerated volumes against a subtle and cosy sensibility.

On one end of the spectrum are everyday styles that speak to the boxy silhouettes of Lee’s Bottega, elevated through the use of intricate details and careful craftsmanship. These all-black wardrobe staples imbue menswear with a new level of comfort; cashmere has been developed to add a patina to the garment and engineered with an elastic yarn for stretch.

On the other end of the spectrum are the truly show-stopping looks. Brightly coloured, inflatable styles inspired by balloons woven together imitate Bottega’s beloved intrecciato pattern, while cartoon-like proportions lend an animated feel.

Bottega Veneta also displays its prowess with materials through highly contrasting textures, all created in-house—notably the thigh-high leather boots which anchor much of the collection, created using leather developed to look like a well-worn, high-shine latex.

Finally, not to be overlooked—if that were even possible—is the fine detailing present in many of the house’s more playful pieces, from brightly coloured, ostrich feather-embroidered jumpsuits to crystal-covered Lurex dresses, each doubtlessly the result of hundreds of hours of incredible workmanship, and a testament to the inimitable nature of Bottega Veneta.
