Putting the ‘black’ in Blackpink, the K-pop girl group showed off stylish red carpet looks at the MTV Video Music Awards
Blackpink would have left an impact at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) by simply showing up, given that it’s their first time being there. But of course the Pink Venom singers had to make their debut in spectacular style, and so they arrived to the red carpet at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, in coordinated looks that put the “black” in Blackpink.
From romantic to glamorous, the K-pop girl group’s outfits demonstrated a myriad of ways to pull off the sombre colour, while showcasing the different personalities of each Blackpink member.
Lisa, who made history by becoming the first female K-pop artist to win Best K-Pop at the VMAs, cut a fine figure in her Celine ensemble consisting of a bustier top that flowed out into a long, sweeping train fitting for the red carpet.

Still, Lisa’s look was anything but conventional, because while it seemed like the Blackpink rapper was wearing a gown from the back, the front of her outfit revealed that she was strutting in a pair of cigarette pants.
Lisa played up the drama of her look with a Bulgari sautoir necklace and one of the jewellery brand’s signature Serpenti bracelets, whose sparkling diamonds were matched by Lisa’s crystal-embellished manicure.

By contrast, Jisoo was a picture of French femininity in a Dior floral lace dress from the luxury fashion brand’s Cruise 2023 collection. Her skirt was adorned with captivating prints of various blooms including the rose—Monsieur Dior’s favourite flower—and ended right by her ankles, revealing a timeless pair of patent leather Dior pumps.
Jisoo added a touch of pink to her look via her manicure, and blinged things up with her Cartier jewels including a pair of earrings from the French brand’s latest high jewellery collection, Beautés du Monde.

Dressed in head-to-toe Chanel, Jennie brought a dose of stylish spunk to the red carpet. Just as she had mixed things up by pairing her Chanel pearls with a sporty outfit in Blackpink’s latest music video Pink Venom, the “human Chanel” once again wowed in a look that was both classic and contemporary.
Instead of a dress, Jennie wore a ruched, halterneck crop top that bared her toned midriff—which she also proudly flaunted in her recent Calvin Klein campaign—as well as a pleated satin skirt that put a spin on the circle skirt that was a staple of the 1950s.
From under her skirt peeked an elegant pair of Chanel pumps, but Jennie’s other accessories were comparably edgy, such as her white gold Chanel ear cuff. Her matte black nails were yet another rockstar touch that Chanel designer Virginie Viard would have approved of.

Rosé, meanwhile, delivered a va-va-voom attitude in her draped Saint Laurent minidress that showed off her legs, made even longer by her Gianvito Rossi patent leather heels. The glamour of the Blackpink singer’s look was amped up by her Tiffany & Co. jewellery, namely a dramatic pair of Schlumberger Flame Ear Clips, a Rope Three-row X ring and a Rope Four-row X-ring.
Just as they do with their music, Lisa, Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé brought their distinctive flavours to their appearance at the 2022 VMAs even while being coordinated—reminding us why Blackpink is one of the biggest fashion powerhouses to have come from the world of K-pop.
