Inspired by the iconic 1929 model, the Audemars Piguet Neo Frame Jumping Hour combines vintage aesthetics with Le Brassus' signature cutting-edge technology.

At Le Brassus in February 2026, Audemars Piguet reaffirmed its position as one of the most adept maisons at weaving the past and the future. This time, the Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer introduced the Neo Frame Jumping Hour, a rectangular watch inspired by the Streamline movement and marking the debut of Calibre 7122, the first automatic jumping hour movement developed entirely in-house by Audemars Piguet.

At first glance, this watch is immediately captivating with its combination of pink gold and sapphire that frames its face. But beneath its vintage-modern aesthetic, the Neo Frame Jumping Hour is a statement about how horological tradition can continue to evolve through technology and a contemporary design approach—a spirit that has been in Audemars Piguet's DNA for over 150 years.

Inspired by the Past, Built for the Present

Audemars Piguet is known for revisiting its archives and reinterpreting them in contemporary language. The Neo Frame Jumping Hour is inspired by a 1929 model, the pre-model 1271, which sits at the intersection of architecture, art, and watchmaking. From there, a new interpretation is born that revives the design codes of the 1930s, but is realized with the most advanced manufacturing technology. Every detail is hand-finished in the tradition of savoir-faire , making this watch a symbol of the intersection of bold experimentation, respect for history, and continuous innovation.

Streamline Moderne: Lines and Curves in Harmony

The Pre-model 1271 drew inspiration from the Streamline Moderne movement, a late offshoot of Art Deco that flourished in the United States during the interwar era. This style celebrated minimalism, drawing on the aerodynamic forms of trains and ships—symbols of speed and modernity at the time. Its hallmarks are elongated lines, rounded corners, smooth curves, and the use of modern materials.

This aesthetic heritage now finds its echo in the Neo Frame Jumping Hour. As Ilaria Resta, Chief Executive Officer of Audemars Piguet , said, this model embodies the maison 's philosophy: rooted in the past, yet always looking to the future.

Two Tones, One Elegant Statement

With a case size of 32.6 mm x 34 mm, the Neo Frame Jumping Hour adopts the visual language of the pre-model 1271 in a more contemporary form. The rectangular case in 18k pink gold is decorated with eight gadroons on each side, extending to form pointed lugs that evoke aerodynamic motion. This motif is executed with high precision through CNC machining and is repeated on the caseback, crown, and oscillating weight.

The dial features a modern two-tone design: a black PVD-coated sapphire crystal with two gold-framed windows displaying the hours and minutes in white on a black background. The Audemars Piguet signature appears elegantly at 6 o'clock in pink gold.

Interestingly, behind this minimalist impression lies a significant technical challenge. Unlike historical models with metal dials, this new version uses sapphire crystal for the dial while maintaining water resistance to 20 meters—a feat that requires a special assembly technique, where the dial plate is bonded to the sapphire and then screwed into the case .

The watch is paired with a textured black calfskin strap, specially designed by the Audemars Piguet design team to blend seamlessly with the case and emphasize its vintage -modern feel.

Calibre 7122: A New Chapter for Audemars Piguet

At the heart of the Neo Frame Jumping Hour is Calibre 7122, Audemars Piguet's first automatic jumping hour movement. Based on Calibre 7121 used in the Royal Oak “Jumbo,” it was developed entirely in-house and combines an instantaneous jumping hour system with progressive minutes.

With a 52-hour power reserve, Calibre 7122 features a patented shock-absorbing system that prevents the watch from skipping due to impact. The hour dial is crafted from titanium for increased durability, while the minute dial is made from a copper alloy. Through the sapphire caseback , owners can enjoy Haute Horlogerie finishes such as Côtes de Genève and satin brushing , as well as a specially designed fluted oscillating weight .

Sebastian Vivas, Director of Museum and Heritage Audemars Piguet, called the watch a tribute to Audemars Piguet's pioneering role in developing the jumping hour watch since the 1920s—now with the sapphire taking center stage, no longer just a protective barrier.

Jumping Clock: A Horological Tradition That Continues to Evolve

The jumping hour concept replaces traditional hands with numbers that "jump" every 60 minutes. This system first appeared around 1650 on night clocks and was later adapted for pocket watches to improve legibility. In the interwar era, jumping hours became popular for their modern appearance and functionality.

Audemars Piguet played a crucial role in this history. Between 1924 and 1951, the maison sold hundreds of jumping hours in a variety of designs, including the iconic pre-model 1271, which inspired the Neo Frame Jumping Hour.

After fading during World War II, the jumping hour returned to its former glory during the Space Age and experienced a true revival in the 1990s when Audemars Piguet combined it with a minute repeater .

Now, with the Neo Frame Jumping Hour, Audemars Piguet reaffirms that horological tradition is not static. It is a legacy in constant motion—reinterpreted, refined, and carried into the future through technical innovation and design sensitivity. It is both a tribute to the past and a confident statement about the future of time itself.
