"Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World" will be launched at the ACM Gala on May 25, before it opens to the public from May 27 to September 17.
In anticipation of the retrospective Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World opening in May, the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) hosted the fashion enthusiasts among its donors and supporters over two evenings at Peranakan Museum, in celebration of the Paris-based Singaporean fashion designer when he was in town in end-March.
One of Singapore’s most prolific fashion designers, Gn is known for his maximalist creations, with a cross-cultural aesthetic that is exemplary of innovation in tradition, and embraced by global royalty, celebrities, and society alike.
Tatler Singapore joined ACM for an intimate evening hosted by Paige Parker, who is chair of the ACM Gala, which will be held in May in Gn's honour as an opener to the exhibition and in conjunction with the museum’s 25th anniversary. Known for her support of homegrown designers, Parker was fittingly dressed in an exquisite Andrew Gn design for the occasion.
The man of the hour himself, Gn later sat down with Kennie Ting, the director of ACM and the Peranakan Museum, to discuss his fashion journey and his major gift to the museum.
"I think it’s the right moment to start from my home and to be honoured by my country's most important museum, I am beyond honoured, and very emotional," says the effervescent designer, who flew in from Paris, where he is based, especially for the occasion.

Everyone was later invited to the Fashion Gallery, on the third floor of the Peranakan Museum, where Jackie Yoong, the museums' senior curator for fashion and textiles, shared how some of the key influences of Andrew Gn’s designs can be found in the sarong kebaya, from the play of colour to the strong sense of appreciation for floral elements.
Guests also had an exclusive sneak peek of two exquisitely crafted designs from the Andrew Gn archives, which will be among the more than 100 works featured in the exhibition, before everyone converged once again for cocktails, savouring a tropical showcase by homegrown brand Kiki's Reserve, which shares the vibrant aesthetic of Andrew Gn's designs.
