See all the best looks worn by Asian celebrities at the 94th Academy Awards
It may be Hollywood's biggest night out, but the 2022 Oscars also shines a spotlight on some of the most talented Asian actors and filmmakers today.
This year, celebrities from South Korea, India and more took to the glitzy red carpet, proudly flaunting their Asian heritage through their traditional costumes.
Raya and the Last Dragon star Kelly Marie Tran became the first actress in Oscar history to arrive in the áo dài, Vietnam’s national dress; she had her emerald green dress specially created for her by Vietnamese-American designer Thai Nguyen. There was more Asian representation from Writing With Fire directors Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, who both donned traditional Indian costumes to the red carpet, as well as Lunana director Pawo Choyning Dorji, who showed off the Bhutanese gho.

Red proved to be a popular colour this year: Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu looked dashing in a crimson Versace tuxedo with gold accents that nods to his costume in Marvel’s Shang-Chi, while Drive My Car actress Sonia Yuan was the picture of elegance in her red Prada gown.
Youn Yuh-Jung, who became the first Korean actress to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2021, stole the show this year for a very different reason. The Pachinko actress wore a classy dress from Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection, embellished with a UN Refugee Agency blue ribbon in support of refugees.
