Rosanna Ocampo invites Tatler to join her in celebrating her career's decade-and-a-half milestone

Since Rosanna Ocampo started her label 15 years ago as a budding designer fresh out of fashion school in Milan, she amassed a reputation as one of the most sought-after couturiers of the Filipina romantic. Ocampo’s work speaks for itself–a dynamic, flattering and elegant array of textured and printed garments reflective of the designer’s effervescent persona.

Ocampo proudly shares her fashion philosophy, “I continuously strive to channel my creativity into clothing that speaks to women, empowering and inspiring them to embrace their individuality with style.”

Along with unveiling her anniversary collection Amore Mio, the designer commemorated this decade-and-a-half milestone with an intimate party at Dr Wine in Makati with close friends, family and fellow icons of the Manila fashion scene.

11 muses were in attendance; women were handpicked by Ocampo herself for representing the spirit of her brand–vivacity, zeal, and refined maximalism. They were spotted around the venue in mini and midi dresses—consisting of vintage lace, serpentine detachable bows and floral brocade inspired by trends currently dominating the runways of Milan.

“‘More is more’,” she relays. “That’s my brand. I’m not drawn to customers who like basic things because that’s not my style. I’m not a minimalist in any way. I like [when] things are happening all the time: the high-octane–music, conversation, colours.”

At 23, the designer moved to Milan, where she trained at the prestigious Istituto Marangoni. Her anniversary collection, Amore Mio, pays tribute to Ocampo's deep and lasting connection to Italy, the origin of her 15-year-long fashion odyssey.

Representing the transition between old Italy and the new, the collection flaunts the evolution of her sartorial journey over the years. Some notable pieces include the three-way blazer with an oversized laser-cut flower embellishment and the Amorino dress in dainty floral hues with pistachio trimmings and a silk fringe.

“This was definitely the hardest collection I’ve had to do,” she admitted. “Because how do I put together the passion of Italians, the love, the obsession, the food, the wine, the sensation, all in one collection? And how do I put the [old and] new together?”

Ocampo’s past 15 years in the design industry didn’t come without difficulties. Restrictions during the COVID-19 interrupted the flow of fabrics and other materials, stalling production.

Regardless, Ocampo, in the year 2023, remains victorious, celebrating 15 years full of triumphs and challenges with her loved ones and raising a glass of champagne for what’s to come.
