A day with Farah Khan, fashion entrepreneur and founder of The Melium Group, one of Malaysia's leading luxury retail and leather purveyors.

As head of The Melium Group, Dato' Seri Dr Farah Khan understandably has to deal with a lot on her plate on a daily basis. Melium was established in 1989 and despite being in the business for over 30 years, Khan has no intentions of slowing down, taking every challenge in her stride including this scourge of a pandemic.

"People ask me why I'm so hands-on. But I feel really responsible for the several hundreds of people working with us," she shares. "They have been so dedicated to this company for so many years and I think it's really important that I totally dedicate whatever time I have on my work and roll with them.

“This has escalated since the pandemic. More than ever I’ve been motivated to get involved in the business to steer the course. And my Melium team has been amazing in pulling together to ensure we come through this. Among other initiatives we have sparked campaigns like #SupportTheEconomy, working with amazing individuals like Chef Wan, Joe Flizzow and Ezurin Khyra to champion the idea that the onus is on us to support each other and local businesses."

Melium is currently the purveyor of some of the most coveted fashion brands in the world including Givenchy, Emilio Pucci, Roger Vivier, Weekend Max Mara, Max Mara, MCM, Tod's, Aigner and Hackett London. It also operates Dôme Café, one of the earliest pioneers of coffee culture in Malaysian cities like Kuala Lumpur and George Town, Penang.

The Group has also embraced the digital realm, launching its own Melium app (available on Google Play and Apple Store), complete with its own avatar aptly named Muse, to engage with customers and fashion lovers. "The app is members' connection to Melium both here and globally, and we want to be able to build on that," says Khan.
