The lead scientific researcher explains how Sulwhasoo's new eye cream will instantly bring back life and radiance to your eyes

Ginseng has been at the heart of the Korean luxury skincare brand since it was founded in 1966. The skincare range that most embodies its dedication to the traditional ingredient is the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing line. With decades of scientific studies and research, Sulwhasoo never stops taking on new challenges and innovating its products to better suit the skincare needs of women around the world. Its signature Ginsenomics technology has been developed to deliver a triple resilience-boosting effect from the rare type of Ginseng Saponin enriched 6,000 times.

In the last year, Sulwhasoo has released the next generation of the beloved skincare products in the range, including its moisturising cream, upgraded with an additional option for those who prefer a richer texture. This month, it introduces two new skincare essentials to the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing line.

Back and better than ever are the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Serum, which contains more than 100,000 Ginsenomic capsules, and the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream EX, characterised by its subtle ginseng flower fragrance, light texture and instant de-puffing effect.

Since the start of the pandemic, there has been increased concern about beauty products for the eye region, especially as we spent more time stressed out and staring at our screens while working from home. Speaking exclusively to Tatler is Sowoong Choi, senior researcher at Sulwhasoo Heritage and Science Centre, who shares how this new eye cream can help addresses key skincare concerns.

When it comes to the eyes, what concerns are most common for Asian women?

Most people would agree that the biggest concerns are wrinkles and droopy, sagging skin around the eyes. It makes the eyes look more tired and serious, thus making the face appear much older. The reason for that is that the skin around the eyes loses its resilience because the eyes are always moving. And it is something that happens much faster, especially as we grow older.

The eye cream is formulated with Ginsenomics and Sulwhasoo's new Ginseng Retinol that will offer triple resilience that fills up the skin around the eyes from within.

The skin around the eyes are thinner and prone to oil seeds. How does Sulwhasoo balance the sensitivity of that area with the richness of its ingredients?

That is at the heart of Ginsenomics. After accumulating more than 60 years of know-how, we have developed technologies that are able to extract targeted material from the ginseng, rather than using the whole thing itself. By optimising on the functional properties and eliminating the substances that we don't need, we can create a product that does not put any unnecessary burden on the skin. Here at Sulwhasoo, we also have rigorous tests for safety and efficacy to ensure that our products work best for its users.

Do you have any tips when it comes to application?

Some people believe that the more you apply, the better the effect. There is no need to apply too much. Use a small pea-sized amount on the ring finger to gently massage into the skin. You can also use the massager to help with puffiness and circulation.
