Instead of risking a sunburn, we check in at Capella Hotel’s Auriga Spa to try out their new Organic Self-Tanning Treatment

Getting a tan in Singapore is easy thanks to the year-round sunny weather, but we know all too well the risk of harmful UV rays, a deterrent to spending time under the sun. That’s why our interests were piqued with the Organic Self-Tanning Treatment at Auriga Spa, a healthier beauty solution designed to give a golden glow rather than a lobster-red or tacky orange-hued complexion.

As we step into the colonial Capella Hotel at Sentosa, a relaxing sense of holiday spirit envelopes us. The spa, cut off from the hustle and bustle of the touristic island, melds luxury as well as a sense of wellbeing and calmness in its simple, rustic decor. The theme of nature is predominant throughout the experience, and all we hear during the treatment is the sound of chirping birds.

The therapist guides us to the treatment room via the wet facilities, an area that consists of hot- and cold-water therapies. Those who wish to indulge in the steam room, vitality pool and the warm and cold showers are recommended to arrive ahead of the appointed time for a complete relaxing and rejuvenating spa experience.

Once ensconced in the treatment room, the therapist starts the Organic Self-Tanning Treatment with a thorough scrub to remove the dead cells, ensuring that the tan lasts for a longer period. She advises that the tan generally stays on for a week, and starts to fade gradually after three days. Should one wish to maintain that sun-kissed glow, she recommends applying the tanning product (which can be purchased at the spa) every three days.

After a quick rinse off, The Organic Pharmacy’s Self Tan lotion is lathered all over the body. Made of a formula designed to give a healthy, natural glow, the organic product comprises ingredients that serve different purposes – the beet sugar is the active ingredient that sets the tan; the zinc clear is for UV protection; shea butter helps moisturise and hydrate; while the red, white, and green tea protect the cells.

The 60-minute treatment is over in a jiffy, and while the product dries instantly (good news: it will not stain your outfit), we are told to avoid water for the next eight hours to allow the natural colour to set in and darken gradually. A fuss-free, relaxing way to get a subtle glow prior to a party, we reckon.

The Auriga Spa Self-Tanning Organic Treatment is priced at $100++ per person
