She also reveals her must-have beauty products and what she uses every morning as a perk-me-up

For some people, music is a form of therapy. It soothes the mind and soul in many ways, allowing us to destress easily with the sound of music.

Mezza soprano Seia Lee is a firm believer that music and self-care go hand in hand. The Japan-born musical artist has been in the industry for over a decade and held performances all over the world, including London, Singapore, Dubai and more. In 2015, she recorded her highly successful album Venere at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

As a performer who may occasionally feel the pressure due to the nature of her work, Lee unwinds by indulging in a beauty routine that allows her to pamper the skin.

“No matter how tired I may be after a performance, I try to set some time aside for my skincare routine,” Lee shares.

From the most unforgettable beauty treatment she’s ever received to her must-have products, we find out how she maintains such enviable radiant skin throughout the year.

How long do you typically spend on your skincare routine?

Seia Lee (SL): In the morning I’ll spend around 15 minutes and 45 minutes before going out of the house and before bed. As a performer, it’s important that I take good care of my skin to look my best on stage. Skincare is also a form of self-care for me and during this time, it’s a great way for me to unwind and pamper myself after a busy day at work.

I used to travel often for shows, prior to the pandemic, and would always be on the lookout for simple, convenient and effective skin solutions. This led me to discover Skin Inc and its extensive range of products and since then, I have been a fan! I love their Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light++ and have been a huge fan of their serums—the Serum Glow Filter and Cocktail Serum. As their products are fully customizable to my skin needs, I find myself having a simplified skincare routine but one that is just as effective.

What is your skincare routine like for day?

SL: In the morning, I start off by cleansing my face with the Biologique Recherche Lait U Cleansing Milk. It’s a milky formula which is great as it helps to balance the PH of my skin—a perfect wake-me-up! I’ll then apply Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose Custom Blended Serum that is customised to my skin concerns, and most importantly I’ll apply a sunscreen that is suitable to the country’s weather!

If I have a show that day, I’ll make sure to cleanse and do a face mask for 30 minutes before I apply makeup.

What is your skincare routine for night?

SL: After I cleanse my face, I’ll select products that match my schedule for the following day. For example, if I don’t have any special plans for the next few days, I will choose a product that is a little more aggressive. I’ll choose between a retinoic acid or strong hydroquinone. Before a show, I will go back to my normal routine which is Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose Custom Blended Serum and moisturiser. I’ll end off with the Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light++ to help penetrate the products better.

Are there any new skincare trends that you’re excited to try?

SL: Since the pandemic, I have been staying home more and find myself being more experimental with my skincare. I’m excited to explore and try more DIY home remedies and treatments for my skin. This way, I can do them in the comfort of my own home without compromising the quality of my skincare.

When did you start paying extra attention to your skin?

SL: When I was a teenager, I got acne from eating too much ice cream(!), and since then I've invested in numerous products and clinics, but getting rid of my pores and acne scars has been much harder than I thought. For [clearing] pores, you just have to find a cleanser that suits your skin. For now, I've settled on a milk cleanse.

What’s one skincare must-have you’ve “influenced” others to purchase?

SL: I love Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose Custom Blended Serum. I love how it can be customised to each person’s skin type, concerns and even lifestyle—making this product unique and like no other. This is definitely my go-to skincare on my vanity table and a product that I believe is worth investing in.

What’s the most important skincare step to you?

SL: I have combination skin, so it’s very important for me to use products that help balance the PH of my skin. I currently use the Biologique Recherche cleanser which helps to gently remove makeup, impurities and cleanses my skin without dehydrating.

Customised skincare is also super important to me, with such a busy schedule it’s great to know I can rely on products such as Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose Custom Blended Serum that targets all my skin concerns at once.

Is skincare the new self-care? What are your thoughts on this?

SL: To me, self-care is more about your inner thoughts and personal goals. I believe having a healthy mindset helps in giving you that natural glow.

What is one piece of skincare advice that you live by?

SL: There really is such a thing as cosmetics that fits. Take the chance and try different ones to see what best suits you.

What is your beauty tool of choice?

SL: I’ve been collecting beauty equipment from all over the world for a while now—I think I have more than 30! My current favourites that are suitable for daily use is the Vzsusa from Artist&co and Skin Inc’s Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light Glasses For Bright Eyes.

What is the most unique beauty treatment you tried overseas?

SL: I’m not too sure if we consider this a beauty treatment, but the Ayurvedic treatment in Goa, India was such a shocking experience—I’ll never forget it!

Have you tried out aesthetic treatments? Why or why not?

SL: Most definitely! When I was living in Japan, I used to fly to Seoul every month just for a facial. I’m the type of person who will try any treatment that sounds good!
