The young supermum and beauty enthusiast is an inspiration to anyone who is struggling with acne. Below, she reveals her best skincare tips

Show of hands if you have suffered from acne or are still battling it. We all know the drill—it is an arduous journey that takes a toll on you (both physically and mentally) but it is all about trusting the skincare process. Tatler friend Rachel Wee can attest to this. In fact, the beauty entrepreneur went as far as co-founding Oh Hello Bae, a skincare label created especially for acne fighters.

The young mum, who is the daughter of entrepreneur Jean Yip and Tatler's Most Stylish Man award winner Mervin Wee, created this vegan beauty brand as she suffered from acne herself for over 10 years and now wants to help those who have similar skin struggles. The beauty blogger enjoys sharing her favourite skincare and makeup products on her Instagram page and spreading wisdom to her followers as she journeys through motherhood with her 16-month-old baby girl, Ellery.

We ask the supermum to spill the deets on her go-to skincare tips, her best beauty picks and how she maintains her skin health while juggling mummy duties, work and life in general.

How long do you typically spend on your skincare routine?

Rachel Wee (RW): I’m pretty quick, I take five to 10 minutes. But I think that’s what makes it sustainable! I do it without fail every single morning and night. I probably haven’t missed a day of skincare since 2009.

What is your skincare routine like for the day?

RW: Our very own Oh Hello Bae Jelly Cleanser, followed by Mist Toner, Glow Gorgeous Vitamin C Serum, Bounce Bounce Baby Hyaluronic Acid Serum and finally a sunscreen. I’m currently using this K-beauty brand Pureforet Centella Cica Sun Cream that acts as both a moisturiser and sunscreen. I also mask every alternate day for 10 minutes (be it sheet masks or wash off masks).

What is your skincare routine for the night?

RW: Same thing but I change out the serums to target different skincare concerns. I do a double cleanse starting with an oil cleanser—I love Shu Uemura’s Facial Cleansing Oil or Fancl’s Mild Cleansing Oil—only these two cleansers won’t break me out and remove makeup and sunscreen thoroughly! I also use Oh Hello Bae Jelly Cleanser, followed by Mist Toner, Aloha Skin Enzyme Resurfacing Serum, Acne Eraser (if I have any spots), Clarins’ Total Eye Lift eye cream and Holy Grail Lightweight Moisturiser. If my skin feels drier than normal, I use Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask or La Mer’s The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream instead.

What was the last skincare product that you bought?

RW: I just bought I Dew Care’s Birthday Cake Face Mask. I bought it because it looks like such a fun product and I wasn’t expecting it to do anything but it was surprisingly quite hydrating for my skin!

Are there any new skincare trends that you’re excited to try?

RW: There’s so much going on about probiotic-skincare where probiotics add bacteria to the skin and help it maintain its optimal balance. I’ve actually recently emptied a bottle of PSA Skin’s Liquid Panacea which contains centella and kombucha (full of probiotics) and my skin loved it!

When did you start paying extra attention to your skin?

RW: I had really bad acne my entire 20s—started when I was 19, so I started learning more about skincare then. And even now after my acne stopped (fingers crossed), I am still obsessed with skincare because I know what’s it like to have unhealthy skin and I really never want to walk down that road again.

What’s one skincare must-have you’ve “influenced” others to purchase?

RW: The Acne Eraser from Oh Hello Bae, which is a spot treatment using natural plant extracts to treat acne and lighten scars. I’ve been open with my acne struggles on my Instagram and I love reviewing products, and that was how I’ve built a community of acne fighters and skincare lovers on my platform; so I think they were very excited to try The Acne Eraser when I created it and it makes me very happy when they message me personally to tell me how it has cleared their skin.

What’s a skincare product you can’t live without?

RW: Oh Hello Bae’s Glow Gorgeous Vitamin C Serum! It’s lightweight and makes my skin glow.

What’s the most important skincare step to you?

RW: Sunscreen. I think sunscreen is such an underrated product! It’s proven to help prevent ageing and fine lines!

Where and what is your go-to facial?

RW: I go to Cheryl W for their Strengthening Porefection Facial because they don’t use the typical painful extraction methods in this facial. Instead, they use a hot and cold non-extraction method to unclog pores and is suitable even for my very sensitive skin.

Is skincare the new self-care? What are your thoughts on this?

RW: I think skincare is just one part of self-care. It’s like exercising. You exercise to look after your body and your health. Skincare is looking after your skin, so you have healthy skin. By taking time out to look after yourself, you are honouring yourself both aesthetically and internally. However, self-care shouldn’t stop at just bubble baths, candles, skincare routines, and downward dogs. True self-care comes from transforming within—and that includes things like forgiving yourself and others, saying no and respecting your boundaries, doing the hard work to grow or heal.

What is one piece of skincare advice that you live by?

RW: Be consistent and patient with your skincare routine. It takes time for your skin to heal and get better. Stressing about it and picking at your blemishes doesn’t speed things up.

What is your beauty tool of choice?

RW: I really love Foreo’s UFO Smart Mask Device, a masking device that allows you to mask in just 90 seconds! It has so many interesting functions like warming thermo therapy and cryo therapy as well as T-sonic pulsations to ensure you’re getting the most out of your mini mask in that 90 seconds.

What is the most unique beauty treatment you tried overseas?

RW: I’m quite unadventurous when it comes to trying unconventional beauty treatments so I have not tried any!

Have you tried out aesthetic treatments? Why or why not?

RW: Yes, I’ve tried lasers to help lighten my acne scarring. I think it helps but I learnt that it’s best not to do them when you have active acne!
