The latest launch by the skincare brand Pola showcases revolutionary Japanese skincare innovation
In 1929, Japanese chemist Shinobu Suzuki witnessed something that would change the beauty industry forever. His wife's hands, chapped from household duties, inspired him to create something that went beyond surface treatment. After seeing how chapped his wife's hands were from looking after the household, Suzuki, a scientist, used his expertise to create an effective hand cream tailored just for her—an act of love that birthed a philosophy still driving Pola today.
When Pola introduced its B.A line in 1985, it was guided by the philosophy of “broadening individual potential” and sought to redefine how beauty evolves with time. Its pioneering Bio-Active Theory challenged the conventions of ageing by focusing on skin’s inner vitality, while ongoing research into skin glycation, launched in 2009, revealed how daily life shapes the complexion’s future. The establishment of the B.A Research Center in 2015 marked another milestone, devoted to exploring how inner vitality can translate into outer radiance. Now, four decades on, B.A continues to advance that legacy with a vision that transcends time itself.
To date, the B.A line has achieved over 400 cosmetics awards and accolades given out by various media and beauty companies—including the 2024 World Congress of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) Johann Wichers Poster Award. IFSCC is the most prestigious congress for cosmetics engineers and researchers. The award is presented to the best poster presentation, which makes it the ninth time Pola Chemical Industries (the research, development, and production arm of the Pola Orbis Group) has won an award at the conference—making it the third most awarded company in the world. The awarded presentation centred on how Pola Chemical Industries developed “Mirror Skin”, a technology derived from iPS cells; it was announced at the IFSCC as a technology that faithfully reproduces an individual’s skin structure. This is said to be the world’s first approach to creating the “ultimate tailor-made cosmetics”.
As the B.A line celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025, it enters a new era—one that transcends the concept of time altogether, empowering every individual to reach their personal best through skin that reflects a life fully lived. Nearly a century later, that same devotion to understanding skin at its deepest level has led to perhaps the most significant breakthrough in the brand's history.
The B.A 7th Generation, launched in September 2025, represents the culmination of decades spent studying not just skin, but the human body's extraordinary capacity for renewal.
Science: the discovery of limitless potential
Pola operates under the premise of "Science, Art, and Love", and nowhere is this more evident than in the brand’s latest scientific revelation. Deep within the B.A Research Center, scientists made a remarkable discovery whilst studying the regenerative ability of dermal tissue around hair roots. They found that even in subjects in their 50s, the areas surrounding hair follicles maintained the same dense collagen fiber structure as those in their 30s.
This led to the identification of pleiotrophin, a secretory protein that promotes dermal regeneration. The research revealed that pleiotrophin is secreted from follicle keratinocytes during the regression phase of hair growth, stimulating what Pola has termed “Limitless Dermis Cells”—dermis cells with remarkable regenerative powers that continuously renew skin tissue.
These activated cells demonstrate abilities far beyond typical dermal function: they promote cell proliferation, remodel extracellular matrix, and coordinate with vascular endothelial cells and macrophages to create optimal conditions for skin renewal. When treated with pleiotrophin, deteriorated collagen fibers are degraded and created anew, forming finer, denser structures that restore skin's fundamental architecture.
The B.A 7th Generation harnesses this discovery through the BA Core Extract, a complex featuring Cystoseira Tamariscifolia Extract and Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract. The formulation creates what Pola calls the 3D Glow & Lift architecture, delivering firmness throughout the face with enhanced moisture, radiance, and three-dimensional lift.
Art: form follows philosophy

The aesthetic language of B.A 7th Generation reflects Pola’s belief that beauty transcends conventional boundaries. Each bottle embodies diverse beauty through fluid design that embraces both strength and vulnerability inherent in human nature. Inspired by the human form, the containers feature exclusively curved lines with no straight edges, shifting their impression from every angle to give form to the “awakening of vibrancy” with endless possibilities.
The choice of “Inclusion Black” carries profound meaning—this colour reflects unlimited possibilities expanded through diversity, as black encompasses all colours within its spectrum. The collaboration with world-renowned flower artist Makoto Azuma creates brand imagery that evokes a mysterious world where the life cycles of plants, nature, and people are intricately layered, transcending the concept of time itself.
Azuma’s artistic vision presents multiple layers within single visuals, revealing the complex and multifaceted nature of existence. The artwork suggests how the fusion of familiar phenomena creates possibilities that expand our world into new frontiers, perfectly embodying Pola’s philosophy of broadening individual potential.
Love: the sensorial journey

Above B.A 7 Milk
Everything got its start not from some kind of business deal, but rather from the love of one human being for another, his wife. This DNA is still part of Pola today, not only in research and development, but also in the construction of our own designs that our customers will encounter.
This founding love manifests in every sensorial detail of the B.A 7th Generation experience. Inspired by sensation science, the collection features textures that awaken resilience with each application—formulations so distinctive that once experienced, they become irreplaceable. The quality of sensation pursues comfort that sharpens the senses, making everyday interactions feel beautiful through touch.
The fragrance architecture reflects this same attention to emotional resonance. Each product features individually designed scents: the B.A 7 Lotion inspired by fresh air and water, the B.A 7 Milk by gentle light filtering through clouds, and the B.A 7 Cream by warm flames. These narrative fragrances create a floral woody accord where each scent layers beautifully upon the next, incorporating an upcycled oakwood ingredient that adds smoky, woody depth whilst supporting environmental responsibility.
The signature Comfort Firming Method, developed exclusively for B.A, combines uplifting massage techniques with the products’ gently bouncy textures. This beauty ritual encourages users to close their eyes, breathe deeply, and experience each scent fully—transforming daily skincare into moments of self-discovery.
Transcending time through innovation

Above B.A 7 Lotion
The B.A 7th Generation collection comprises three products working in harmonious sequence. The B.A 7 Lotion, with its “penetrating firming veil”, delivers moisture instantly into skin with approximately 1.15 times faster penetration speed and 2.7 times higher concentration of beauty ingredients than average Pola formulations. The B.A 7 Milk creates a “luminous firming veil” with enhanced light-diffusing ability and improved softness, whilst the B.A 7 Cream forms a “self-regenerating veil” with superior shape-restoring properties and moisture retention.
Each formula contains the Epi-Volume Capsule technology alongside Pola’s original beauty complexes, including Amaranthus Caudatus Rosma, YAC Extract, EG Clearing Extract, and SC Liquid. The result is skincare that addresses not just surface concerns but fundamental skin architecture, delivering what the brand describes as skin that feels "as if regenerating."
The collection extends Pola’s environmental commitment through refillable formats, FSC MIX certified packaging, and the use of recycled and plant-based PET materials. Online brochures replace traditional paper materials, available in five languages through QR codes on product boxes.
The B.A 7th Generation represents more than product innovation—it embodies Pola’s vision of empowering beauty to transcend time itself. In a world where age often defines expectation, this collection proposes a different paradigm: one where skin's potential remains limitless, where beauty deepens rather than diminishes, and where each day offers new dimensions of renewal.
As Pola’s research continues to broaden individual potential beyond conventional boundaries, the B.A 7th Generation stands as proof that when science, art, and love converge, the impossible becomes achievable.
Pola B.A 7th Generation is now available at Takashimaya Department Store and Metro Paragon.
