Les Essences de Diptyque, the maison’s newest collection, explores the aromas of nature’s most mysterious treasures, elevating the ordinary to the extraordinary

A pioneer in perfumery since 1968, Diptyque has consistently drawn inspiration from nature to craft its sensually avant-garde fragrances. Les Essences de Diptyque—The Essences of Diptyque—is the maison’s latest collection of olfactory masterpieces, continuing this tradition with a creative homage to the natural world.

This collection invites perfume enthusiasts on a sensory journey through five essences that deliver an interpretation of natural elements that are visually vibrant yet without discernible scent: coral, mother-of-pearl, bark, water lily, and desert rose crystals. Each bottle is a work of art, engraved with intricate illustrations by Irish architect Nigel Peake, telling the tale of each unique scent.

Corail Oscuro, inspired by breathtaking coral gardens, is the creation of perfumer Alexandra Carlin. She envisions the briny undertones of coral to match the sharp brightness of mandarin. This solar scent mirrors the warm hues and mineral essence of underwater coral formations, resulting in a fragrance as dynamic as it is mysterious.

“For a long time, we thought [coral] was a mineral, then a plant, only to discover it was an animal. I wanted to work on the salinity and fiery red colour of a coral garden, blooming with stony plants and glowing bushes,” Carlin says. The floral-mineral fragrance contrasts the sea’s depths with sunlight glittering on the waves, offering a warmer, woody salinity.

Lunamaris, crafted by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, pays homage to mother-of-pearl, a precious stone celebrated for its luminous sheen. Rockrose's bright warmth and pink peppercorn's spicy accents blend with incense, creating a fragrance of understated opulence and elegance. This scent reflects the moonlit shimmer of mother-of-pearl, exuding a subtle, sensual depth.

Pellegrin also reimagines the desert rose—a striking crystal formation found in arid regions—in Rose Roche. The scent marries the radiant freshness of lemon with the earthy depth of patchouli, capturing the essence of a rose sculpted by desert winds. The result is a fragrance that embodies the fragility and timeless beauty of its natural source.

“I worked on the notion of time to guide my creative process. Nature takes time to transform a shell into mother-of-pearl with precious reflections, to sculpt the contours of the compass rose. I took the same amount of time to create my formulas. I have selected ingredients whose long temporality echoes these natural elements,” Pellegrin explains.

“Ingredients, shaped by time to reach their very best: from their natural growth to their harvesting at their olfactory peak, to their transformation and infusion to express their ultimate essence. Clearly, I wanted noble ingredients that matched Diptyque’s vision of nature and conveyed the raw beauty of its masterpieces.”

Bois Corsé, created by perfumer Nathalie Cetto, honours the tenacious bark of ancient trees. Its complex aroma blends amber and woody tones, with smooth hints of sandalwood and the bitter depth of black coffee. The scent underscores bark’s protective qualities, delivering a robust yet soothing olfactory experience that reflects its enduring strength.

Finally, Lilyphea, inspired by the tranquil beauty of the water lily, is a collaboration between Nathalie Cetto and the late master perfumer Olivier Pescheux. The fragrance balances the fresh green leaves and their soft, creamy texture, creating a calming and entrancing scent with cardamom, violet leaves, and Madagascan vanilla notes.

“My first collaboration with Diptyque was an absolute delight,” shares Cetto. “I felt guided and supported by my friend Olivier Pescheux (who passed away too soon), who worked so often with the house and created some of Diptyque's must-have masterpieces. I realise how lucky I am to be creating for this House of Haute Parfumerie, which I have always admired, and the challenge was to live up to the admiration I have for Diptyque.”
