Why is everyone obsessed with aegyo-sal or the pink undereye?

According to the Spate Trend Report 2023, eye makeup trends will be among the several crazes to dominate the beauty field this year, and such a notion seems to be true. Korean eye makeup trends, especially, appear to be making noise.

It is no surprise, though. With the rise of K-drama and K-pop came a general interest in all things Korean—particularly the beauty and skincare industry.

Today, Tatler lists some eye makeup trends from Korea that are gradually increasing in fame through the years.

The aegyo-sal is the roll of skin right beneath your eyes that frames the lower eyelids. Instead of making eye bags a cause of insecurity, Koreans highlight these parts of the eyes to make them pop and, subsequently, help you achieve a fresher, youthful look.

To pull off the perfect aegyo-sal makeup trend, you need an eye shadow palette or a highlighting tool for shading. A natural, light shade will do.

Urban Decay’s Naked Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette or Dior’s Backstage Glow Face Palette might help do the trick!

Pink is a girl’s (or everyone’s) best friend! The rosy pink eye shadow trend in Korea is the go-to of locals who want to switch up their classic neutrals for something fresher and fun.

This eyeshadow look is akin to the colour of roses in the springtime, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Achieve the rosy pink eye look with the Fenty Beauty Rose palette or Chanel’s Ombre Premiere in pink!

Monolids are eye shapes commonly seen in people of Asian descent. Koreans, particularly, take pride in this, as well as doing their best to enhance it.

Hana Lee, a Korean beauty influencer, shares in one of her Youtube videos how glossy eye makeup looks can work with monolids as well. She demonstrates how to do it in a step-by-step video—garnering supporters who can relate to her due to similar eye shapes.

In the video, she uses Huda Beauty Empowered Eyeshadow Palette and Fleshpot Eye and Cheek Gloss.

Aside from eyeliner and eyeshadow, the easiest way to make your eyes pop is to put some glitter. The added shimmer to the eyes, according to several reviews like one from the No Make No Life blog, lightens the face and helps the eyes stand out.

The shimmer eye look is also perfect for the summer! Try it before the rainy season comes with the Valentino Dream Dust Glitter Eyeshadow or MAC Cosmetics Glitter.
