Be it plant-based solutions, personalised skincare or sustainable packaging, these local skincare labels tick all the boxes and are worthy of adding to your beauty routine in 2024
Given that people in Hong Kong have to protect their skin from the issues that might arise as a result of the city’s mostly hot, humid weather, most Hongkongers tend to take their skincare routine seriously. But up until recently, they have had to rely on international brands for skincare products. However, in the last few years, several local entrepreneurs have identified this gap in the market and have risen to the task of producing and selling skincare products targeted specifically to the Asian skin and the city’s climate. So if you’re looking to change your skincare routine, here are six local beauty brands that you might want to consider.

1. Therapeautic
Founded in 2022, Therapeautic is a homegrown skincare brand that promises to target sensitive, dry and eczema-prone skin types. The product line-up currently includes the Hydra Cleanse face wash, the Hydrator serum and the Hydrasoothe face cream. All the products contain ingredients such as allantoin, ceramides, prickly pear extract and squalane. Together, they are said to provide relief irritated and dry skin, whether that’s caused by genetic issues or environmental stressors.
2. TiN5 Skin
Entrepreneur Nicholas Chow founded skincare label TiN5 Skin in 2022 with two things in mind: to create products that address skin issues arising due to humid and polluted conditions; and to have a truly “made in Hong Kong” brand.
This has resulted in products with plant-based preservatives that “guarantee 60 days of freshness”. Among the brand’s offerings are two highlights, The Concentrate Serum and The Essential Light Face Cream, both of which contain ceramides.
3. Halto Major
Halto Major is a local brand that claims to harness the benefits of one particular ingredient: copper peptides. This ingredient, which helps in healing wounds, is naturally found in the body but its quantities decrease with age, which is why we need to apply them topically via skincare products.
Founders Marco Yu and Daniel Sung have incorporated this ingredient in all of its products such as the Moonbow multi-action toner, the Moonbow gel repairing mask and the Blue Moon serum.
4. Odriem
Yuki Wong is an aesthetician who provides treatment for acne-prone skin at her clinic, Weirdo Beauty. In 2018, she founded a skincare line called Odriem that focuses on the same issue. The brand’s hero products, such as the Star Aura cleansing balm and the Acne Treatment Essence emulsion, contain plant-based ingredients such as jojoba seed oil, argan oil and wild roselle extract, which is all in line with the founder’s philosophy of cruelty-free, plant-based skincare to Hong Kong.
5. Cary Regimen
While most skincare products can cater to all genders, Cary Regimen offers skincare and hybrid beauty products (products that blur the line between skincare and make-up) specifically for men. Founder Matteo Chung wants to reimagine men’s grooming routine with products like the Everyday tinted moisturiser and the Under Eye Correction tinted eye cream. By offering a two-in-one solution, these items allow men to take care of their skin while also enjoying the benefits of subtle make-up. Please note that shades ranging from light to medium are currently available.
6. Skin Need
Skin Need, founded by Christal Leung, is focused on tackling the challenges that one’s skin might face due to exposure to pollution. Among their standout products are the Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which is said to have a hydrating effect and the Thermal Spring Cloud mask, which is said to provide deep cleansing. The brand prioritises sustainable manufacturing practices, using clean or vegan ingredients, and local packaging to minimise carbon footprint.
