Master perfumer Christine Nagel transforms her acclaimed Barénia composition with richer ingredients and deeper complexity, creating a more mysterious facet of the Hermès woman through leather-inspired luxury fragrance

One year after the launch of Barénia Eau de Parfum, Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense makes its entrance, combining recollection with invention—because there is no creation without memory.

Christine Nagel wanted to intensify the original composition of Barénia by reworking her creation. The essence of patchouli present in the Eau de Parfum is here enriched with a different patchouli in the form of an absolute. Leathery notes complete a palette created around butterfly lily and miracle berry. Oakwood gives subtle structure to the whole. Transformed by a roasting process that accentuates its warm, rum-like notes, it becomes a reed, forming the supple, vertical backbone of this Eau de Parfum Intense.

Don’t miss: the new Hermès Barénia is the maison’s new eau de parfum that is its first chypre fragrance

A new facet of femininity

With this even more powerful and captivating fragrance, a new facet of the Hermès woman becomes clearer. The imprint of a woman shrouded in a heightened air of mystery, her deepest instincts revealed by the bewitching, sensual presence of leather.

The fragrance is transformed—from a metaphor for Hermès’ beloved Barénia leather into a physical, almost tactile presence. “When you touch Barénia leather,” explains Nagel. “A kind of fusion happens between the texture and your skin. The leather returns your caress.” This intimacy, this incomparable harmony between strength and softness, is illustrated by the dialogue between lily and leather, the sweetness of the one tempering the unsettling animality of the other.

This duality is reflected in Philippe Mouquet’s design for the bottle. Coloured with a light lacquer in graduated shades of amber, it becomes perfectly transparent at the base to reveal the Hermès signature. Although the metal plate inspired by the Collier de chien bracelet and the cap remain unchanged, the box for the Eau de Parfum Intense, while still hot-stamped in silver, is now sumptuously decorated in rouge H. This emblematic red hue expresses the intensity and ardour of a unique composition that heralds a hitherto unsuspected version of the Hermès chypre.

Barénia Eau de Parfum Intense is available in a number of sizes, 100 ml, 60 ml and 30 ml, not forgetting the refill and the 15ml travel size bottles.

This creation is now available in selected Hermès retail boutiques.
