To celebrate the release of Charli XCX’s latest single, Good Ones, here are five better-than-good make-up looks and products to recreate them

Charli XCX rarely goes without sultry eyeliner, but she never does the same look twice. While she sticks to a similar colour palette consisting of browns, blacks and pinks, she often experiments with different types of cat-eye shapes, that range from subtle to intense. Here are some of our favourite looks, and tips to execute them at home.

Double the liner, double the fun

A double eyeliner look with a cut crease is a challenging look but can be achieved with plenty of patience and precise blending. Make sure to prep the eyes using an eyeshadow base, or concealer and powder, to create a smooth and clean canvas.

When creating this type of eyeliner, specific tools make all the difference. It’s key to use a small angled brush to create wings with the utmost precision, and a pointed brush to gently blend out the eyeshadow to the desired shape.

Keep in mind not to be too heavy handed with product as you want these wings to be soft and blended, and a clean fluffy brush will help to blur any harsh edges. Complete the look with individual false lashes on the outer lashes to elongate and emphasise the eyes.

Nice and neon

This shock of pink under blunt bangs contrasts against Charli’s chartreuse dress and it’s an eye-catching look for sure. A single eyeshadow blended all over the lid and shaped into a wing looks super editorial but is also possible to recreate at home.

Make sure to layer and blend pink eyehadow until you reach the level of opacity you want, and then balance the eyes by sweeping a brown shade on the lower lash line to add depth. Although Charli’s skin is quite bare, there is a dewy quality to it, so use a luminous powder all over. Finally, wear a nude and glossy lipstick to keep the attention on the eyes.

Doll face

This sweet look is simple, with fluttery eyes and rosy cheeks. Don’t be shy when applying blush—use a very pink and shimmery shade and place it on the apples of the cheeks, blending it out towards your hairline. Put a little extra on the tip for a sunburnt look, then dot faux freckles across the nose bridge.

Charli has large eyes, but she emphasises them using a light-coloured eyeliner on the lower waterline to enhance the illusion. To make yours appear doll-like, apply individual false lashes on the bottom lashes. Complete the make-up with a pink glossy lip and hair clips for a fun and youthful touch.

Smoked out

The singer gave this sexy smokey eye an upgrade. Super blended and winged out,  only a few products are needed to achieve this look. Start with a deep black creamy eyeliner to create a base for the shadow to stick to, otherwise the shadow won’t be as intense.

Smudge it all over the eyelid and blend, bringing it up into the crease and winging it out. Then, use a black eyeshadow to set the eyeliner, and continue to build the shape that you want with a liner brush. Keep a clean fluffy brush on hand to brush away any excess product.

Brown and blended

Continuing with the monochrome shadow look, this time Charli opted for a rich chocolatey brown shade blended all the way up into her brow. Her eyes aren’t lost in the shadow and are framed with black liner and extra thick lashes

The “bedroom” eyes are complemented with pinky nude blush and lip gloss to balance the face. All in all, this is a simple and glam look that would work for any nighttime occasion.
