At the BTL Regional Summit & Award Gala 2025, aesthetics is now discussed as a system that involves the body, mind, and how we care for both sustainably.

Welcome to the era of mindful beauty! Global data shows that 50 percent of adults report feeling emotionally exhausted or mentally overwhelmed. These figures make one thing clear: wellness can no longer be defined solely by improving physical appearance. Physical and mental well-being are inextricably linked.

The 2025 BTL Regional Summit & Award Gala in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, held at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa from November 29 to December 2, 2025, featured the theme of mindful beauty , an approach that places full attention to the body and mind as the foundation of aesthetic treatments. In practice, mindfulness means understanding the patient's overall condition, including lifestyle, stress levels, and current life stage.

Clinical practice and science behind EMFACE

One of the key sessions was the EMFACE Scientific Workshop, led by Miss (Dr) Sherina Balaratnam, MBBS, MRCS, MSc and Dr. Darren Ng, MBBS, FRACGP, FACP, moderated by Dr. Sam R. Patel, MD MBA. The workshop discussed long-term clinical outcomes as well as the integration of EMFACE into daily practice.

As we age, the face not only experiences skin changes, but also loss of muscle mass and strength of supporting tissues. EMFACE works by combining two energies: synchronized RF (Radifrequency) to stimulate the skin and connective tissue, and HIFES™ (High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Stimulation) to activate facial muscles. This approach has no downtime and has been widely used, including in certain medical contexts such as the recovery of patients with Bell's palsy , a temporary paralysis on one side of the face caused by facial nerve damage that usually occurs suddenly.

EMFACE itself is already available in Indonesia, reflecting how science-based technology is increasingly being adopted in local aesthetic practices.

Psychodermatology and the role of EXOMIND

The afternoon session focused on psychodermatology , an approach that addresses the link between mental well-being, emotions, and skin conditions. For years, most treatment approaches have focused on the body. EXOMIND aims to challenge that stereotype. This technology brings a new perspective by helping individuals feel better, not only externally but also internally. This non-invasive device works by stimulating an area of the brain called the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC) , a region involved in focus, emotional regulation, and stress response. The stimulation is gentle and controlled, with the goal of helping the nervous system achieve a more balanced state.

This technology brings a new perspective by helping individuals feel better, not only externally but also internally. Designed to support the management of conditions such as depression and anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and binge eating , EXOMIND positions mental health as the foundation of quality of life, not merely an add-on.

For many doctors and clinic owners, this approach opens up new possibilities for supporting patients who present with aesthetic concerns, as well as mental fatigue, burnout , or sleep disorders. EXOMIND is expected to enter the Indonesian market in 2026.

More than just a conference

Beyond the scientific sessions, the BTL Summit & Award Gala 2025 was also designed as a space for interaction. The VIP Lounge , beach dinner , and award gala provided opportunities for attendees to exchange views informally. Discussions often continued outside the conference room, strengthening the sense of community among physicians and practitioners. Several speakers such as Prof. Sebastian Cotofana, MD, PhD., Ph.D., Miss (Dr.) Sherina Balaratnam, MBBS, MRCS, MSc, Dr. Darren Ng, MBBS, FRACGP, FACP, Dr. Sam R. Patel, MD MBA, and Prof. Calvin Cheng MBBS, FHKAM, FHKCPsych also presented in-depth sessions on various important issues related to the world of aesthetics and mental well-being.

The awarding ceremony was the closing ceremony that celebrated the contributions of clinicians from various countries, including Indonesia, in promoting responsible and science-based aesthetic practices. The Mindful Beauty: BTL Regional Summit & Award Gala 2025 in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, demonstrated that aesthetics continues to move toward a more holistic approach. Skin, facial muscles, and mental health are no longer understood as separate entities. Through clinical discussions, technology, and shared experiences, the summit affirmed one thing: the future of aesthetics lies in more conscious attention to both body and mind.
