A look at some the sports cars and luxurious rides of Lewis Hamilton

On and off the track, Formula 1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton knows a thing or two about fast cars. The real-life champion has recently made headlines with his big-screen appearance in the blockbuster motorsport movie F1, where he was among the world’s best real-life drivers whom Brad Pitt’s character races against. .

Away from the cameras, Hamilton’s larger-than-life achievements in motorsports need no introduction. He holds the record for the most wins, pole positions and podium finishes in Formula One history. He shares the record for the most World Drivers’ Championship titles—seven—with Michael Schumacher. Alongside his racing success, Hamilton is known for his activism in social justice and environmental causes, and was knighted in 2021 for his contributions to motorsport and philanthropy.

One of Hamilton’s lesser-known—but perhaps not entirely unexpected—accomplishments is curating a truly remarkable car collection, valued at an estimated US$13 to US$16 million. Split between his homes in Los Angeles and Monaco, the collection features rare hypercars, supercars, luxury daily drivers and classic American muscle cars—each one as legendary as its owner. Here are some of the standouts.

Hypercars beyond the hype

Mercedes-AMG One

Arguably the rarest car in Hamilton’s garage, the Mercedes-AMG One is a hybrid hypercar built with Formula One technology. Powered by a modified F1 engine and four electric motors, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of 352 km/h. Only 275 units were produced—and naturally, Hamilton owns one.

Pagani Zonda 760LH

Few drivers have a hypercar bearing their initials, but Hamilton does. His bespoke Pagani Zonda 760LH is one of only five ever built. Finished in a striking metallic purple, the Zonda boasts a 7.3-litre V12 engine producing 760 HP. It features a manual transmission, making it a demanding drive for anyone else but one of the world’s top F1 race car drivers.

McLaren P1

Part of the holy trinity of hybrid hypercars alongside the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder, the McLaren P1 is valued at around US$1.6 million. Hamilton, who began his F1 career with McLaren, owns this 903 HP beast that sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 349 km/h.

Stable of supercars

McLaren F1

Hamilton reportedly waited almost a decade to acquire his silver McLaren F1, which he won at auction in 2017. Its chassis number is 044—matching Hamilton’s racing number. Once the world’s fastest production car, the McLaren F1 boasts a top speed of 387 km/h and a distinctive three-seat layout with the driver seated centrally.

Ferrari SA Aperta

An ultra-rare convertible, this Ferrari is a true roadster with a 6-litre V12 engine. Costing over US$1 million, only 80 units were built to commemorate Pininfarina’s 80th year. With a top speed of 325 km/h, the Ferrari SA Aperta is designed to be driven as an open-top with a light soft top in case of inclement weather.

LaFerrari Aperta

Lewis Hamilton reportedly has two LaFerrari models in his garage, with the Aperta being the limited-edition version with removable carbon-fiber hardtop and canvas soft-top, and only 209 units of this hybrid supercar in the world. As Ferrari uses technology derived from Formula One for enhanced performance, no surprise that this car has an eye-watering top speed of over 350 km/h.

Luxe daily drivers

Mercedes-Benz EQC

A vocal environmental advocate, Hamilton balances his love of fast cars with eco-conscious driving. One of his daily drivers is the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQC SUV, offering dual motors, all-wheel drive and a range exceeding 400 km. The top-spec model is priced at around US$130,000.

Mercedes-Maybach S600

For long journeys in luxury, Hamilton turns to the Mercedes-Maybach S600. With a 6-litre bi-turbo V12 engine producing 523 HP, this super-luxurious saloon features a stretched wheelbase for added rear passenger space and Airmatic suspension for a smooth ride.

American muscle cars

Shelby 427 Cobra

Among his most iconic cars is a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427, valued at around US$5 million. Powered by a 7-litre V8 with 425 HP, it reaches a top speed of 257 km/h. Hamilton purchased this sought-after classic in 2015—and later bought a second one to preserve the first. With a curb weight of just over 1,000 kg, it boasts a remarkable power-to-weight ratio.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

A lifelong fan of classic American muscle cars, Hamilton also owns a 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which he restored to immaculate condition after buying it for US$1.5 million. Film buffs will recognise this model as “Eleanor” from the 2000 remake of Gone in 60 Seconds.
