The former head of Tencent-owned WeSure has joined the metaverse innovator, game developer and venture capital powerhouse

Alan Lau, the former executive chairman of Tencent’s in-house insurance agency WeSure, is now Animoca Brands’ chief business officer.

He is helming Animoca Brands’ portfolio of companies and overseeing mergers and acquisitions and business development, according to his LinkedIn profile. 

A prominent art collector, Lau is vice-chairman at M+, co-chair of the Guggenheim’s Asia Art Circle and co-chair of non-profit Hong Kong art institution Para Site. He is also on the Tate Asia Pacific Acquisition Committee.

Hong Kong-based Animoca Brands, founded in 2018 by Yat Siu, is known for leading developments in blockchain, artificial intelligence, digital entertainment and gamification. It has invested in a variety of firms in the Web3 space, including The Sandbox, Decentraland and Dapper.
