Only a month ago, news broke out about a sinking barangay in Bulacan caused by climate change. It's an alarming sign that has made sustainability champions spring into action—from holding seminars to spread the word to throwing cake at prized masterpieces.

Gina Lopez

The late philanthropist and environmentalist Gina Lopez has left an indelible mark for her efforts in helping abused kids, strengthening communities, and going against mining corporations that harm the environment. The former Philippine environment secretary always championed people over profit, a quality that many will remember her for.

Anna Oposa

Chief 'mermaid' of Save Philippine Seas, Anna Oposa, advocates for the protection and preservation of marine resources. What began as a hobby became a passion. For years, the co-founder has established initiatives including the Shark Shelter Project on Malapascua Island, the annual Sea and Earth Advocates Camp for young people, and Earthducation to help bridge the gap between scientists and the general public. In 2018, she became one of the North American Association for Environmental Education’s (NAAEE) Global 30 Under 30 awardees.
Carlo Delantar

Waves for Water Country Director Carlo Delantar has been working towards a simple vision: to provide access to clean water to families, especially those living in far-flung communities. Since its launch, this non-governmental organisation has reached 1,000,000 individuals.

Megan Cabalcar
Megan Cabalcar is an animal rights advocate, a sustainability champion, and the co-founder of Berde Eats, an online vegan grocery in Laguna that launched in 2017. Cabalcar, who runs the grocery with her mum, encourages all to switch to a plant-based diet for the sake of a sustainable future.
"I went vegan as a student, back when vegan food wasn't as easy to see as it is now. Surprisingly I found it easy. The secret? I loved going vegan. It felt like finally being my true self—one who is kinder. It felt me. Going vegan isn't easy for everyone, though, so I'd like to help out," writes the co-founder in an Instagram post.
Chit Juan
Long before sustainability became the core mission of businesses, cochair of the Philippine Coffee Board, Chit Juan was championing the slow-food movement in Asia through ECHOstore, a sustainable lifestyle retailer. Juan was also able to bring ECHOstore into the digital world, allowing easier access to those who want to live a healthier lifestyle that impacts the environment.
Maxene Magalona
Yogi Maxene Magalona started Be Kind, where she bakes vegan goodies such as cookies and cupcakes. Magalona's transition into veganism since 2019 has helped her "improve our lives so much". The star shared some health benefits in an interview and revealed her main inspiration was ahimsa, a principle in yoga that does not condone harm to other living beings.
