In Full Bloom

One of the most iconic moments to come from Tatler Ball are the fun photos that everyone takes at the photo wall. This has been a tradition since 2002—the very first Tatler Ball—where guests post with black sunglasses in honour of Tatler Philippines' memorable "Men in Black" cover featuring Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Mar Roxas.

Lately, however, the Tatler Ball has been incorporating more floral themes into photo booths. The 2017 photo wall saw a light blue pastel theme, decorated with contrasting colours of a giant gold T and fuschia orchids.

In 2018, a darker, more contemporary theme was taken on for the photo wall. Guests posed in front of a bright green wall, complemented by dark, floral wallpaper. In 2019, there was a pivot again towards sunnier themes, still with florals and greens in mind.

If there's one thing about the Tatler Ball that hasn't changed, it's the people you can expect to see at the event. Every year, Tatler gathers some of the most influential, most stylish, most accomplished people in the country, all to help a wonderful. Invitees include accomplished entrepreneurs, social influencers, artists, politicians, doctors, and many more. Though the 2022 guest list is considerably smaller than galas from before the pandemic, there is no doubt that future balls will welcome many more of society's most important and influential.

Deserving Awardees

Not only is Tatler Ball a time for charity, it's also a time to shine a light on some of the most deserving people out there. In 2019, Ben Chan took home the Diamond Award, which is also the highest recognition given at the Tatler Ball. Dancer and founder of the STEPS Scholarship Foundation, Sofia Zobel-Elizalde was named Patroness of Arts and Culture, while Joanna Preylser-Francisco was given the Most Stylish Award. Previous winners of the Most Stylish Award include Lucy Torres-Gomez and Stephanie Zubiri.

One of the sweetest awards has to be the Couple of the Year Award. At the last Tatler Ball in 2019, it was given to Joey and Marissa Concepcion. Meanwhile, Alice Eduardo took home the title of Most Charitable Force. Her favourite causes include Tuloy Foundation (a residential institution for abandoned youth), the Paediatric Oncology Isolation Ward of the Philippine General Hospital, and a dormitory for the relatives or caregivers of cancer-stricken patients.

These inspiring persons became the cover of Tatler Philippines' February 2019 issue.

A Worthy Cause

Tatler Ball is centred around an altruistic cause: to support a charity that truly makes a difference. This 2022, Tatler Philippines is supporting the foundation of U-Go, an organisation that empowers Filipino women to pursue university degrees.

In the past, charities have included Operation Smile, WWF Philippines, Habitat for Humanity, Gawad Kalinga, and the Philippine National Red Cross.

In 2019, the Ball was able to raise 8 million pesos through enticing auction lots that included exclusive stays in Tanzania and Japan, a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, artwork, and rare wines.
