Through the programme, the leading canned tuna brand in the Philippines implies how significant marine conversation is and what we can do to be a part of the solution
As an island country in Southeast Asia, the Philippines is known to be teeming with aquatic life. With this, our home is recognised as a house of the world's most prosperous marine biodiversity centres. But despite this wondrous feat, our country's greatest treasures are unfortunately in danger due to alarming environmental issues—among which is plastic pollution.
Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles in the Earth's environment affecting the welfare of humans, wildlife, and their habitat. Over the years, we've gone through several movements supporting the cause of taking action and ending this crisis.

Such initiatives like regularly recycling, choosing reusable versions, opting for alternative packaging, buying from low-waste shops, avoiding microplastics, and even just speaking up are already beyond helpful and make a big difference to the health of the environment and in saving our planet.
And last March 25, in line with the celebration of Earth Hour, another measure in answer to the plastic plight was given birth to.

Saving Our Seas is also in partnership with HOPE's Aling Tindera Waste-to-Cash programme, in which people in the community can collect their plastic waste and exchange it for cash. Through this collaboration, Century Tuna reinforces the Plastic Circular Economy concept: all plastics collected and recycled are diverted away from nature to ensure they won't return to the open environment. This is done by bringing it to processors, which turn them into something useful and can be used again by the people.
Along the shoreline of Mabini, Batangas, 11 key areas were already deployed with the Aling Tindera waste bins, where people can drop their plastic and convert their trash into cash. Saving Our Seas aims to collect at least 10 metric tons of plastics for its pilot year.

“We are very excited to partner with Century Tuna for the Saving Our Seas initiative. This campaign will help grow awareness and encourage more people to join the fight against plastic pollution. We hope Filipinos will take this opportunity to exchange their waste for cash and save our seas at the same time,” shares Ilusion Farias, managing director of HOPE.
