The new year gives everyone a chance to start anew. Read on to find out what our Tatler friends want to leave behind, improve on, or change for the better

For many of us, the new year ushers in a clean slate perfect for moving forward. Setting resolutions mark a much-needed starting point from which we can plan a path that will set the tone for the rest of the year, whether it involves leaving things behind or starting them anew. Big or small, what’s most important is we reflect upon our past and work on ourselves to be better individuals, continuing to do good however we can.

From staying true to one’s self and making more memories with family and friends, to being on time and fostering more conducive spaces for creativity—our Tatler friends share their resolutions for this year.

Nicole Syjuco

Nicole Syjuco is the owner and vice president of Draco Builders.

"For 2023, I would like to spend more time with my family, explore the world, and extend more help to people in need."

Rajo Laurel

Rajo Laurel is a world-renowned fashion designer and creative head at House of Laurel.

"It’s not really a resolution but it’s best summed up in this quote [from "New Year, New Memories" by Alysha Waghorn]:

[To] make, mountains to climb, art to create. New friendships to treasure and old ones to slowly release back into the wild. New opportunities, possibilities, and adventures that set my soul on fire. New obstacles to face with grace and courage. Old doors closing. New ones opening. The only resolution I have for the next year is to live. Wild and free. That's it."

Linda Ley

Goal setting is always a good way to start the year. This 2023, my new year’s resolution is to focus on my health. I’d like to live life to the fullest and that’s only possible with a healthy body and a clear mind.

"Creativity takes time, patience, and wisdom. So, for this year, I hope to create quiet spaces that are conducive to the creative process. In this way, I can continue to bring more timeless and meaningful pieces that will have a cherished place in people’s lives."

Brian Hontiveros

Brian Hontiveros is the CEO of Modularity Home, the exclusive distributor of Scavolini, Valcucine, Pianca, and Albed & Elica

This year, I plan to practice mindfulness and be a bit more level-headed, positive and happy. To learn to accept that life has a lot of uncertainties but still, be grateful for what we have. This way, the creative juices to build more beautiful spaces—whether it be kitchens, bathrooms, or bedrooms—could be possible.

"I normally do not do New Year's resolutions because more often than not, I don't get to fulfil them. So, for the last two decades, I simply dedicated my whole year to God, and I will continue to do that this 2023 and expect the best from God.

I simply want to be a better version of myself for my family, loved ones, and my career."

Erica Concepcion Reyes

Erica Concepcion Reyes is the owner of Riqueza Fine Jewellery.

"I look at 2023 as a gift to restart and a chance to reinvent. The collective life-changing experiences enable bolder thoughts and bigger hearts. On that note, I wish to be brave - to write that bucket list and go for it. To have wise use of time so that I may live with intent and purpose and enjoy life while doing good. Much to celebrate and be grateful for with new beginnings."

Last year was quite an amazing, awesome year and I feel 2023 will even be better."

Matthias Koppe

Matthias Koppe is the ASEAN director of operations at Lynx and lead advisor of Diageo Prestige.

"I don't really have new year's resolutions but my priority will always be my family. I set goals so that I can not only continue to provide for them but secure their future. Self-improvement is part of this as I must admit that I have some character traits I and those around me can live without. Lastly to continue living a healthier lifestyle to ensure I can be around long enough to see my little angel grow. Healthier food intake, regular physical activities, and rest. (I suffer from insomnia). I guess I have finally come to terms that I'm not exactly the youngest anymore."
