Draped in elegance, this year’s ball showcased how commitment, goodwill, and community give way to lasting impact—relive the night’s highlights here
Tatler Philippines has marvellously woven a network of influential people and brands who share in our endeavour to celebrate the best of Asia. These tastemakers, visionaries, and industry leaders across the country and region contributed to our continued journey. As we toast our 22nd anniversary, their presence at the Tatler Ball 2023 has likewise made it a tremendous success.
Tatler Philippines managing director Irene Martel Francisco’s opening speech was filled with thanksgiving. She relayed her gratitude to friends, colleagues, and advertisers in the room and to the dedicated Tatler team led by editor-in-chief Anton San Diego. Proudly sharing the company’s significant growth across print, digital and events this past year, she added, “I look forward to 2024 with excitement, knowing we strive to give you our best.”
Beyond this remarkable feat and the glamour of our well-dressed guests, the evening has shone bright with purpose. Underscoring the festivities was the incredible support for this year’s chosen beneficiary: Project Inclusion Network (PIN). Atty Emmeline Aglipay Villar, its former chairperson and ardent champion, moved us with her speech where she said: “You have shown that change for inclusivity is not just possible—it is happening, and we are making it happen.”
Dinner followed, and it was nothing short of exquisite. Headed by executive chef Joris Rycken, Shangri-La The Fort Manila prepared a delightful Moroccan-themed menu for the evening, with a slow braised lamb terrine to start and a selection of sweet, citrusy desserts to finish. Back for an encore after last year’s ball, host Tim Yap and Tatler Homes Philippines editor Stephanie Zubiri were joined by social media star Small Laude for the ensuing charity auction.
Through this portion’s proceeds and generous pledges from our guests, we raised over PHP 13 million during the Tatler Ball 2023. This amount will help bring about positive change in the lives of more than 250 persons with disabilities through PIN’s provision of vocational scholarships and technical training programmes, ultimately fostering a more inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
As the auction’s hosts bid farewell, the lights in the ballroom dimmed for singer Morrissette to take our breath away. Serenading the crowd with powerful vocals, she concluded her three-song set with a hopeful rendition of Rise Up.
From an outpouring of gratitude and generosity to even more celebration—Tatler Philippines editor-in-chief Anton San Diego and multihyphenate Heart Evangelista took to the stage for the announcement of this year’s Tatler Ball awards: Dolly de Leon, Kenneth Cobonpue, and Maria Ressa. Though each shared thanks and inspiring stories in their speeches, it’s hard not to hold onto Ressa’s closing words as the recipient of the Diamond Award: “I am tremendously optimistic. I think the Philippines is in a great place. We must move forward together.”
And with that, we ended the night dancing, invigorated and optimistic for the future we will no doubt create together.
