In February, digital transformation pioneer Surina Shukri lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 48. Through her influential roles as the former CEO of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and a founding member of Women in Blockchain Asia, Surina drove digital innovation and advocated for increased female participation in the technology sector. Despite her battle with breast cancer, she remained committed to living life fully, achieving personal milestones such as completing her first half-marathon.

As global chipmaker Nvidia continues to power the artificial intelligence revolution, all eyes are on CEO Jensen Huang. In March, Nvidia revealed the Nvidia Blackwell Platform, whose processing power can lead to breakthroughs in AI, engineering simulation, quantum computing and more. The fascination with the tech leader extends beyond Nvidia, which recently reported a blowout third-quarter revenue of US$35.1 billion (up 94 per cent from a year ago), with readers also keen about his net worth, tattoo and signature black leather jacket.

India’s Ambani family throws a spectacular wedding

The July wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant led to increased attention on the Ambani family, one of the foremost families in India, as well as Indian wedding customs. Anant is the son of Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of conglomerate Reliance and the richest man in India, with a net worth of US$101.7 billion. His two-day wedding welcomed around 1,200 guests, which included Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates. The lavish affair also featured a rare performance by Rihanna, whose fee was estimated between US$6 and US$9 million.
Squash icon Nicol David supports young athletes and their families

Expanding the Nicol David Organisation, the non-profit that empowers underprivileged youth through after-school programmes involving squash, Nicol David launched Ibu Legends in June. The new programme provides free medical check-ups, mental and physical well-being workshops and parenting support to mothers, who, for the squash legend, are “the ones making the family move forward”. Looking ahead, David expressed her desire to expand the programme to support the ecosystem surrounding children—fathers, schools and communities.
Maggie Grout makes education accessible through 3D-printed schools

To increase global access to education, Maggie Grout founded Thinking Huts, an international non-profit that uses 3D printing to build schools in developing countries. After a conversation with her father about the applications of 3D printing, Grout saw the possibilities of the technology as a solution to break the cycle of poverty. In 2022, Thinking Huts completed its first 3D-printed school in Madagascar, offering a cost-effective, scalable solution for underserved regions. Of the future, she said to Tatler, “If we are successful in bridging the gap between poverty and wealth, the audacious goal would be to scale Thinking Huts to every country where education infrastructure is needed.”
