Dubbed the “king of luxury goods”, Johnathan Hanh Nguyen currently serves as Chairman of Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPP), one of Vietnam’s foremost distributors of high-end brands. He first made headlines in 1985 by spearheading the launch of the direct flight route between Ho Chi Minh City and Manila, a milestone not only in aviation but in Vietnam’s modern history. It marked a turning point, helping to end the trade embargo and open the country to the world.
His impact reaches beyond business. His eldest son, Henry Nguyen, speaks of him with admiration: “What my father did was intertwined with the fate of many people. We are grateful to have been part of that journey, woven into the collective efforts that made a difference.”

“Prestige is not something that can be acquired by oneself. It is a brand that must be built over time, maintained with effort, and evaluated by others.”

From humble beginnings, doing jobs such as driving a tricycle, trading rice and delivering flour, Kao Sieu Luc taught himself the art of baking and founded Duc Phat Bakery in 1987. After a personal setback, he passed on Duc Phat and began again with ABC Bakery, named after his three children: A for Angela, B for Bruce, and C for Christine. Today, the business operates dozens of stores and exports bread to countries including the United States, Australia and Japan. He is also credited as the “father” of dragon fruit bread, created in response to the agricultural crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a father, Kao Sieu Luc has long harboured the hope that his children would return to serve their homeland. It troubled him to see them studying and working overseas. With steadfast belief, he persuaded them to come back, declaring: “Whatever they pay you, I will pay you the same. But return, and contribute to Vietnam.”
