Front & Female Awards Hong Kong 2023 winner Patricia Ho, human rights lawyer and founder of Hong Kong Dignity Institute, on Social Impact Award winner Lynette Nam, executive director of Justice Centre Hong Kong

In a time when all are advised to self-promote, Lynette Nam has been steadfast in her resolve to promote others. Her unassuming, head down, let’s-get-on-with-the-work posture garnered her respect from her team, and I believe any collaborators.

If she'll allow the spotlight to turn on her for a moment, then let’s celebrate the passion she holds for advocating for refugees in Hong Kong, a passion which gave her tenacity, courage, sacrifice and dedication. Heading up any NGO in Hong Kong has been challenging in recent years. Businesses and the government have been focused on political issues, and combating Covid-19 and all the challenges along with that. And now, most Hongkongers are rightly looking to the economy, mental well-being, and forging a new identity for Hong Kong. Lynette’s role in leading the Justice Centre Hong Kong through this time, focusing always on representing those who need assistance in securing protection from persecution, is inspiring. And of course, the most marginalised in Hong Kong continue to require us to stand for them, so let us do so, with Lynette.

Patricia Ho is a human rights lawyer, law lecturer and founder of Hong Kong Dignity Institute, a non-profit whose mission is to restore dignity to and advocate for the right of Hong Kong’s most vulnerable. She is a Front & Female Awards Hong Kong 2023 winner.
