Peter Chan

Hong Kong screenwriter, producer and filmmaker Peter Chan Ho-sun is renowned for his versatility across various genres, including romantic comedies, musical dramas, and historical epics. He holds the unique distinction of being the first director to win Best Director awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards, the Golden Horse Awards, and the China Golden Rooster Awards.

Chan spent much of his childhood in Thailand, then honed his craft working as crew, producer and assistant director on John Woo and Jackie Chan films in the 1980s. Some of his best-known films include He’s a Woman, She’s a Man, starring Leslie Cheung and Carina Lau; Golden Chicken, which stars his real-life partner Sandra Ng; and The Warlords, featuring Andy Lau, Jet Li and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

Peter Chan’s most recent production, the Zhang Ziyi-led She’s Got No Name, premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024. The film, which also features Lei Jiayin and Jackson Yee, is based on the true story of a woman accused of murdering her husband in Shanghai in the 1940s.
