Mark Nicdao

Photographer and Artist

The esteemed visual artist is known for his unique and creative approach to photography

A sought-after name in the field of photography. Mark Nicdao is known for his keen eye and powerful images, which can be seen in various publications and contemporary art galleries.

In February 2022, Nicdao revealed a different side of his talent with Portal 5.122, “The Imaginings of a Disinhibiting Manic Neurotransmitter’” (Beta Version), his first solo exhibit as a multimedia artist. A culmination of paintings and mixed-media works with a psychedelic vibe; the series invited viewers into a mesmerising realm where vivid colours, intricate patterns and surreal imagery evoke a sense of wonder and exploration.

In October 2022, Nicdao joined a roster of esteemed contemporary artists at Asia Now Paris. He continued his artistic journey in 2023 by mounting another solo exhibition in Canal Grande, Venice. Titled Chapter 8: Misfired Synapse, Nicdao’s latest project showcased broken synapses symbolising human frailty, resilience and the perpetual search for equilibrium. Renowned art dealer Elizabeth Royer, who curated the show, hosted a gala dinner attended by 35 Filipino collectors, celebrities and art historians from Manila.

Nicdao is also an advocate for improving art education in the Philippines. He believes many young Filipinos have what it takes to succeed in the world’s great artistic centres—but only if their gifts are properly nurtured. “I think art education and cultural exchanges or studies should be given more priority among young people who show interest in the field,” he explained. “Equal footing [with the rest of the world] will follow if our young artists are nurtured [and] government support is given to everyone who seeks it. Education is still the key solution [for global competence,] but it can be a problem if access to it isn't there.”
