Lui Che-woo is the founder, chairman and managing director of the K Wah Group, and chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group.

With only an primary school education, the teenage Lui started out by helping his grandmother sell food and sundry. He first built up K Wah in the 1950s as a construction materials business, subsequently diversifying into property development through its K Wah International division. Galaxy, established in 1988, is one of Macau’s leading gaming operators, with six casinos in the city as well as hotels.

Lui’s K Wah Group continues to make significant acquisitions even during times of economic instability, most recently winning a tender for a significant plot of land in Shanghai.

A staunch philanthropist, Lui has made major donations to medical services and to educational institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 2015 he launched the Lui Che-woo Prize for World Civilisation, which offers three cash awards of HK$20 million a year to groups and individuals striving for significant progress, for services to Sustainability, Welfare Betterment and Positive Energy.

The father of Francis, Alexander, Paddy and Lawrence, Lui is a former member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the holder of both an MBE and a Grand Bauhinia Medal.
